Can you be friends with an old crush?

This guy and I have been friends since the 9th grade. Since high school had ended back in 2003 we have been in and out of each others lives. Through high school I had a huge crush on him but never said anything for fear of losing a good friend. Well 3 years ago he was back in my life and admitted to me that he had a huge crush on me in high school and that he was scared to tell me. I had asked why he never said it before when we got in contact with each other after high school and he had said that the timing wasn't right. He had a girlfriend and I was interested in someone else. When he told me he was crushing on me neither one of us had a significant other. Well we started talking and kinda moving slow well we got into a huge fight over something and kinda stopped talking until recently I came across him on FB. We have been talking everyday now since I sent him a friend request. Last night he seemed to be a little flirty and using lots of smiles and all. When he was going to bed he told me have a good night and I responded for him not to be a stranger. When he responded back he told me that he def won't be.

Now for the problem he has a girlfriend that he is living with, but he has never once made mention his girlfriend. He has even had the opportunity to say something.
