Crush won't let me buy her a birthday gift?

FYI: I'm 18, she's 17

So I'm basically competing against this other guy my crush is also "Talking" too and she accepted his gift, but when I offered to buy her something she said she didn't want anything because "it makes her feel weird getting gifts from people"

Would you guys/girls say this is a strike against me? Or I'm overthinking it because she's into him at the moment?

Well, it depends on if he mentioned the fact that he was going to get her a gift or if he just kind of surprised her with one. If he surprised her with one then I completely understand why she accepted his and told you not to buy her anything. Maybe instead of buying her something, you could just do something really thoughtful and nice for her. That way it wouldn't really be like you were giving her a gift but at the same time you were acknowledging her birthday and still celebrating it with her. For example, you could take her out on a date to her favorite restaurant or something like that. Something that shows her you like her, that you're mature and considerate and that you can stand out from all of the other guys that like her. Since she's 17, I'm pretty sure no guys ever done something so romantic like that. It could win you big brownie points! :D

i think she's just being polite. personally I don't like getting gifts from people because I don't like people spending a lot of money on me so when a guy asks me what I want for my birthday I say "please don't get me anything, but I appreciate the thought though" I also don't want to make it seem "too obvious" I may be interested. get her something anyways. something small, not too expensive, but something semi personal like a necklace that YOU can put on her.

For me personally I would say she likes you more. My, now boyfriend, wanted to get me something for my birthday while we were just "talking" or dating. I wouldn't let him because I felt awkward. If another guy had given me a gift I would have accepted it though. Ask her if she would like to go to dinner then and that can be her birthday present. That's what my boyfriend did and it was so much better than any gift!

Why would you have accepted it if another guy gave it to you? Fyi she's kinda "talking" to both of us, mainly him more then me. Which is why I felt slightly rejected ya know?

I don't know...like, it makes me feel kinda awkward when I really like someone and they want to buy me something...I mean, I guess if my boyfriend had just gotten me something I wouldn't have said no. Maybe the other guy didn't ask.
