Why do guys always text short answers? I believe they don't like me, my friends say it's a guy thing?

guys can you explain this mystery?

i don't initiate but when we talk I write a lot and their answers over text are so short.

and the strangest thing is they seemed interested when we met (THEY approached and tried to convince me and not the other way) Same with this current guy. I told him that I'm sorry I talk so much and he said he likes to listen, so it's cool. didn't convince me at all (and told him that) and his answer was that I shouldn't get mad, he likes it a lot every time we talk and he sent a kiss.

He probably is too lazy to text! Or he's not much of a talker. If he's really interested, he'll be interested more in you then in himself. This doesn't go for every guy, but since he sounds like he 'flirts' over text and approached you, I'm guessing he likes you. Does he start the conversations? It's hard to tell with guys what exactly is their 'issue' with texting. He might just not be a good speller and doesn't want to eternally embarass himself, or he could be holding back, because he's worried he'll get too attached if he says too much. They also like to appear strong and by telling you about his problems, it means he's exposing himself to you. That's a lot of pressure and pretty scary for a guy. Most guys don't even tell their friends their real problems, at least from what I've seen.
So, it's hard to tell exactly what it is, but you can assume he likes you.
If I were you, I'd be completely direct and ask him up front. He might not even notice he's doing it!

I have a guy friend who told me that he hated texting really, if anything he preferred calling instead. He said it was because when you are texting with someone you have to sop what you are doing every 2 minutes so he can't concentrate properly on what he's doing.

I guess this might be one of the reasons :)

i disagree I text a lot and its usually the girl who texts less. texting is long and annoying process. I prefer talking to someone on the phoene instead be it guy or girl. girls seem obsessed with texting I don't know why even if I meet a girl and she gives me her number ill say ill call and she often says text me instead. its so odd. whatver

texting is lame all the car accidents and deaths over the years as a result of texting is insane. nothing is that important. but I'm a long texter especially if I like the girl if I don't like her I will likely make my texts short unless she is a good friend.

My answers are short because I can't spell, I don't always think of something to say, but I want her to know I am paying attention. Other guys I know are short answer types as well (at first I thought it was an age thing). Seems girls, any age, seem to text longer than guys of any age. I think you should apply for a million dollar grant to study this.

From my research, it is guys who started using :-) and all, as well as "u" "r" "c" instead of real words. So trap it is we created.

If this is his only flaw, you are lucky :)

It's not a mystery. I'm a guy and I text long messages. It's more of a way how some people are. Some people don't have a way with words so they try to be as short as possible because they might be afraid of how they'd sound. It might be that, or it might be that he's busy with something but still wants to be able to instant message you.

idk what you said but sometimes you read something and don't know how to respond or don't have something lengthy to say about it so you're just like "yeah".

I also agree with one of the other guys. I hate texting. Unless I have one sentence to say, I'd rather call and talk.

I like texting people I'm interested in, and my girlfriend, and make decent conversation. If I'm not into the conversation I'll make the text as short as possible. Waste of time.
