What do guys mean when they say "lets hangout"?

so I started noticing that guys have never asked me out like straight forward, One time a guy asked me to hang out and I was like yea ill let so and so know and ran off to tell them, turns out he was asking me out on a date. I get confused by this because a lot of guys ask me to "hangout" not sure if they're interested in me or if they just want to chill to make time go by.

Hmm. Many possibilities there. I think you should gather in a few more bits of info to find the answer to that. But maybe this will help. If the guy did not like you he would not ask you to hang out. Most men when they say they want to hang out is a good sign they like you but with out any hidden meaning. It is possible that he is board and just wants to hang, it is also possible that he is interested in you and its a way to hang out and get to know each other better. But I have never meet a man who asked a girl to hang out and he was actually asking to be girlfriend and boyfriend. You might have found a weird guy on that one. I have asked girls if they wanted to hang out cause I was interested in them. I have also asked girls to hang out just cause were friends and board. I would also say that after a while of hanging out you may be able to figure out his intentions and if he is into you buy his actions or just by how things are going. I hope this helps a little.

Dates are old school. Most girls freak out if you asking them out on a "date". It is better to make the girl guess what his intentions are. I always ask girls I like to "hang out", that way they don't think they are going on some expensive or high pressure date. I like to hang out and watch Netflix.

You could start saying to them "I don't really "hang out" with guys I go on dates" then that kinda gets them to make it more official and less ambiguous about what's happening. If they really like you they will have no problem making it a date.

It takes the pressure off of him. A guy will rarely ask a girl out to hang out unless he's bored.

Assume it's a hangout to pass time cause if he wants a date he will ask you on a real date.
