What to say when a girl asks if I'm single?

That kinda ruins it right there if I say yes, doesn't it? Then I feel like I'm saying well duh, that's why I've been talking to you the last few weeks. Isn't it better to keep the mystery and say something like it's possible. What's a good response for this question.

If you've spent weeks trying to get her interested, and then she asks if you are single, then you've accomplished getting her interest . . . So if you want to say something more suave than, "Yes, I am single!". I can understand not wanting to sound desperate, or like she's the only thing you've been thinking about or whatever. I guess a way to keep the mystery, would be to playfully but sincerely say, "I've just been dating, but I'd be interested in exclusively dating you, if you're ready for that." Mystery but commitment offered in one shot, that's suave. ;-)

Personally, if I ask that I want a straight answer. Don't try to be mysterious because she'll get suspiscious and wonder what you're hiding.

If you want to joke about say something like "Why? Are you asking me out?"

But even then I'd be put off. I'd start question if you were mocking the idea and don't actually want anything like that. And I'd pick up on the fact that you hadn't actually said yes.

Seriously, just tell the truth. Just reply with "Yeah, I am, how about you?" Or something equally dull. This is the time for honesty, not mystery.

If you don't say a straight-up yes, she'll think you're a player or trying to cheat on someone else.

"yeah, I love it". When she asks why it's because you have no one to report to or one of the 53 other reasons being single is awesome, even if you don't want to be single, because of her.

If I asked a guy if he was single and he replied with, "yea I love it". I would not like that. It's good to be happy/comfortable with yourself and life when you ARE single, but I'm looking to meet somene who WANTS a relationship, more than to be single. This would hurt my confidence, make me wonder what is true intentions are and would definitely throw me off. I'd probably start looking at other men again, even if I had considered dating him exclusively.

Good point but if I like a girl, and she seems to be giving a vibe that she likes me by asking that question, I'd probably have given her the vibe, or would soon thereafter, that I'd make an exception for her. I'm not saying to the girl that I want to be single forever, just would be saying happy with what I am. Showing that you're looking for a relationship is showing you don't have one which may imply you can't find one. I'd rather look like I'm content without one but would with her.

Just answer honestly. If you say "it's possible" she's going to be weirded out about why you're not answering straight. I'd assume you were either in a relationship and trying to cheat, or that you're embarrassed about being single. Both turn offs.
