Sales girl vs. gals just out

If a gal approaches me at a store (sales girl), I'll assume she's doing so because of her job. If a gal is just "out and about", I'll assume she's just being friendly.

A flip of this I read on here that a gal (just "out a about") sometimes will ask a guy questions just to get him talking. Any truth to this? More on this, should Í assume girls in the situation are flirting with me?

I work in customer service and I do have to strike up conversations with random people, sometimes men. However I'm not attracted to all the men I talk to while at work. If I am, I will be flirty: Hugeeee grin on my face and a pat on the forearm gets most of them taking note of my name. And if I'm not, its just a normal client I am trying to help.

there are some questions we have to ask, so that we do our job properly, however if I ask for more details than I need, I'm trying to get to know you and probably find you somewhat charming/attractive.

Can you share what are "more details than necessary". Reason I ask is that I truly can't tell most of the time.

Sales girls usually don't seriously flirt. They only do it to make you want to buy stuff.

Other girls it really matters what she is saying. I talk to people sometimes, just to talk or because they are friendly and I am bored. When I rode the train, I usually tired to talk to someone if they sat next to me, be it male or female, but that doesn't mean I was interested in them. But if a girl is interested she may try to start you talking because she thinks you are cute. Just talk and see if it goes anywhere

A salesgirl will never seriously flirt on the job if she values her paycheck. (Note: this doesn't include flirting so that you'll buy stuff). Or at least she won't initiate flirting.

If a girl is just out and about, it depends. Sometimes she could just be making small talk in a long line because her iphone died and she can't play Angry Birds. But if it's clear that she made the effort to be near you and have a conversation, she's probably flirting 9/10 times.

This leads me to ask, what is "seriously flirting" vs. the "other" kind of flirting.

The "Is the bus coming"? and what not are apparently their way of thinking they are showing interest.
