Guys, how do you feel when a girl compliments your outfit/looks?

The other day these two guys in my Economics class and I were talking, one of them wearing formal attire with white sneakers the other dressed casually. When the casual dresser began to tease the other guy about his choice of shoes, I came to his defense, claiming that his outfit was immaculate. To bolster my argument, I began to explain, in detail, just how well he looked and why the shoes worked. He was blushing as I spoke, and I hoped I didn't embarrass him. Also, I had a crush on the casually dressed guy and I hope he didn't think that I was trying to flirt with his friend.

Anyway, this occurrence made me curious: how does a guy feel when complimented? Does he think the girl who complimented him was attempting to flirt with him? And how would you feel if you were either guy in the situation mentioned above?

If the guy likes you, it's definitely a compliment. If he doesn't like you... well, it's still a compliment, but it would be of lesser value (since he doesn't like you). Blushing is something guys do, I guess, when a woman makes a compliment to him. You didn't embarrass the apparent snazzy dresser guy. I doubt the other guy (casual) thought you were flirting with him (dresser guy). If you smiled when you complimented, then he might have that slight (or more than slight) feeling of you flirting with him. But it's a question mark. He doesn't know for certain yet if you were flirting with him - although I strong believe he hopes you were. If you weren't smiling, then I doubt he thought you were flirting, but it may not necessarily be out of the question to him. Unless you come right out and tell the guy that you're flirting with him, he more likely may not know you're flirting with him.

i would wonder why she's doing it

one time when I was working, I had to be dressed nicely because I was heading to an orchestra concert I was playing in right after it. a woman much older than me, said "you look nice today". I said "why"? she said because you're all dressed up...well, why don't I look nice everyday? why is it only today? it was more of an insult than a compliment, even if it was from a much older lady

I usually just think better of the person, in that I'm like "wow she/rarely he likes what I'm wearing, I'm surprised they have the same taste as me, I should put that in my notebook". But it doesn't affect me in that Ill wear that outfit more often or whatnot since I'm the type to go in the closet and wear whatever sticks to my body or whatever I feel like wearing that day.

If he was blushing then yes he thought you were flirting with him.

If I was the guy being complimented, I'd take compliment for what it is, you noticed something about me.

If I was the other guy I'd think you were trying to make me jealous.
