Batter gets my vote.
pop in to any decent fish shop and there will be some bloke in the corner beating his batter.
So many things you can batter (Scouse joke there somewhere).

Deep fried Ice Cream


I had a deep-fried Mars bar (battered, or course) at an Irish pub in a beach town in Southern California. The ultimate in decadence. I assumed that it was an Irish thing since the Irish are superior in everything. :-)
Bread crumbs are an excellent coating for some things. But for crunch, batter is best.
I hope all those shops who sell fried Mars bars in Scotland have emergency insulin shots and defibrillators.
Batter usually gets the vote, even if the arteries scream appeals.

When I make fried chicken I just use straight up flower and deep fry it that way.
It really depends on how you want the outer layer though. I personally believe the batter is always better though.
They both suck when leaving a trail in the woods...
