What was your favorite candy or treat as a kid?

Beef and squid jerky. I loved those so much. I was a weird kid and didn't like things like potato chips or ice cream so much. But I loved beef and squid jerky. Also squid in vinegar, buffalo wings, pepperoni sticks, things of this nature. I think I was a protein junkie.

Squid jerky might sound odd to some people but it's very popular in Japan (atarime).

I loved Slim Jim so much in the US. In Japan we also had those types of pepperoni sticks which I loved but not quite as tasty as Slim Jim:

Also roasted chicken thigh. I loved roasted chicken thigh. When I was a little boy they seemed so gigantic. Now I'm disappointed because I've grown so much bigger and then chicken thigh seems so relatively small now.

I did the same! One time I got a large box of Slim Jims as a teen from Sam's Club, and I ended up eating the whole thing in one sitting. I ended up not feeling so good after. :-D

I was a really strange kid as far as the treats went. For example, my parents would take me to a restaurant and show me the dessert side of the menu as a boy complete with pictures, and say I can order anything I want from there for being a good boy. Then I'd look through it and not find anything so interesting and start working towards the appetizers and get all excited by something like chicken wings and ask if I could have that instead to the surprise of my parents. I'm still like that now. :-D

One type of treat that does actually resemble candy that kids like though that I liked quite well was gummies (gummy bears, e. g.). I especially liked those Haribo Cola gummies. I used to think that was a weird anomaly since almost all the treats I favored were savory, but I think what I like about gummies is the gelatin which is a source of protein.

I used to like a lot of candy when I was young. Whenever my parents bought them I would go crazy with happiness. Sometimes I still eat those candies. It is difficult to choose the favorite among them. Anyway, those candies are -

They used to have these semi-soft little red balls that were cherry flavoured and I LOVED those then, suddenly, they stopped making them!! I haven't been able to find them anywhere since the early `70's!! Every time I think I've found some and try them, they're all sour and these were not sour.
