Today is my first time trying root beer. If you ever had root beer, when did you first have it? Do you like it?

I may have had bottled root beer when I was young. But there is one thing I remember vividly. My parents often took my sister and I camping in the San Bernardino Mountains during summer vacation. I might have been as young as five and my sister two the first time we went. To get to the mountains, we had to drive through the towns of Redlands and Mentone where is was very hot, over 100%. Cars in those days didn't have AC, so we couldn't tell if it was hotter with the windows open or closed because the wind blowing in through the open windows felt like a blast furnace. We felt like we were going to die.

But in Mentone, just before you began climbing into the mountains, there was an old fashioned A&W root beer stand with car hops. My dad pulled off and we got frosty mugs of cold root beer.

From then on, when we drove to the mountains during the summer, all we could think about was stopping at that A&W oasis in the desert.

I quite drinking Coke and Pepsi products many years ago. But on occasion, I'll drink Mug (Pepsi) root beer when it's on tap. I most often do that when my wife and I go to this amazingly good pizza place nearby.

We have a really great place called Big A Root Beer in our nearby town. The company makes their own and it's REALLY good. It's a burger joint but they have an amazing menu and good prices. They also have old fashioned car hop service. Sometimes we get root beer floats there, too.

You should try a root beer float - scoops of vanilla ice cream in a mug of root beer.

I started drinking it when I was maybe 2 to 5 years old and haven't stopped since!! Nectar of the gods!! About the only things better are birch beer and sassafras. I go through about 8 or 10 liters every week!
My ex-fiance was from India and she'd never had any before she met me. She opted to try it, hated it, at first, said it tasted like cough syrup but, after a few more tries, couldn't get enough of it and would even drink some AFTER brushing her teeth at night, which she also didn't do until she met me!

I’m too old to drink soda and get away with it anymore😂 But root beer is outstanding, in my opinion. Certainly in my Top 5, if not my Top 3. I enjoy it with pizza, particularly, for some reason. But I can’t really eat that anymore either, not if I want to take my shirt off at the beach, anyway😂😂😂

When I was a kid, don't know when though... I used to get root beer floats at A&W Restaurants when i visited my dad and brothers during the summers when i was little, they had the best floats! I loved the root beer hard candies too but can't have them anymore due to crown and filling lol

Fun fact in England 2014 Root Beer was banned for been unhealthy. Now it's not banned but to find a place selling it as a commonalty would be super rare.
So I have never had it.
Apparently it's on the lines of dandelion and burdock which I love. But it's name to me makes me cringe at the thought of ginger beer since that just burns and is awful.

For some reason lately I have become addicted to it. I don't know if my taste buds have changed or what but I don't remember enjoying it so much when I was younger. I highly recommend trying Sprecher Root Beer in a frosted mug. It's the best in my opinion.

I had root beer since I was a kid. I prefer it over Coke and Pepsi! However I no longer drink these types of beverages because of the amount of bad sugar they contain.

Long, long ago. And A&W is the king of Root Beers as far as I am concerned. So much better than the other brands. They used to come in large cones which I would drink while traveling.

Had it when I was like 4 or 5  Originally my favorite flavor and I'd even get water ice and lollipops with root beer flavor. A&W is not my favorite root beer though. I've always preferred Mugs

Yes, it is great. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or custard and you have a root beer float, or what they used to be called a black cow. Yummie. Use a good root beer.

When I was a young kid. Next step is getting the root beer ice cold (no ice in it though) and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it. Drink away. Root beer floats are very tasty!

Wow 24 years! Root beer probably predates my memory. Like my mom ran out of milk.. In the fridge and poured root in the bottle. Really about 10 I suppose. Barq's still has bite over 30 years later.
