+1 yFish. I never even eat fish, so that was an easy answer for me. I cannot stand fish. I never liked it as a kid either. I think the only way my mom would get me to eat it is if it was fish sticks. And those things are literally 80% bread and 20% frozen fake fish. I’d also drench it in Ketchup.
Removing fish and lamb from the list (the two I don’t eat)… I’d probably have to say Turkey. I eat chicken, pork, and beef a lot, and I definitely would miss those if I couldn’t eat them anymore. Turkey, it isn’t something I would want to eat a lot. I only ever eat it on a sandwich or for Christmas/Thanksgiving. So, turkey isn’t something I eat often.21 Reply

My favorite meat is seafood, especially shellfish. But I love other types of fish.
I like beef. A good steak at times, a juicy hamburger, or in stews and sauces.
I love pork - bacon, Canadian bacon, proscuitto, various kinds of sausage, pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ baby back ribs. Ham is delicious in sandwiches and in some types of vegetable soups.
I like turkey sandwiches. I like the dark meat of a roasted turkey, and the white meat makes great home-made sandwiches.
I really like roasted or fried chicken. Chicken wings rock. And chicken goes well in lots of dishes. I don't really care for thick slices of chicken in burger-style sandwiches. Chicken meat can be dry and kind of tasteless.30 Reply
321 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Oh Cherry I just can't choose. Beef I love a nice steak. Pork well I can do without roast pork but all the pork derivatives ham, bacon, etc I couldn't do without. Lamb well that's just gorgeous. Chicken is just one of the most versatile meats and I love it so there is a definite hard no on that one. Turkey I love a lot and it's a great meat for nutrition and and it's nice and lean, I eat Turkey a lot, and cooked correctly it is really tasty. Fish no again that has to be part of my healthy diet and I love fish.
I guess looking back at all of these, whilst I do love a good steak it's probably the one that I could drop, it hurts me to say that but there it is, beef, I drop beef 😫😭11 Reply- +1 y
What's your beef about anyway?
453 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. All but chicken, lol.
I already don't eat pork.
Beef is heavy so i limit it to no more than twice a month if that.
I don't like fish.
I refuse to eat animals i think are cute (so no lamb)
And turkey is kinda dense/heavy so i rarely eat it.10 Reply

+1 yProbably Turkey and not because I dislike it; I actually love turkey! The main reason it'd be easiest for me to give it up on that list is that it's not very popular and difficult to acquire in Japan.

We don't really eat turkey sandwiches and things like that here (although they offer them at Subway). But it's very difficult to get turkey meat of any sort; they're not available at regular grocery stories here. I prefer a turkey sandwich over a ham sandwich but it's too expensive and difficult to acquire here. I tend to forget that turkey meat even exists until Thanksgiving (which we also don't celebrate here).
- +1 y
To my understanding, it's relatively difficult to acquire outside of the Americas and certain parts of Europe. Here pork and chicken tend to be the most common and least expensive besides seafood. Beef is popular but quite expensive; even lower grades of imported beef tend to be 3-4x the cost of what I find in the US, and native beef (almost always Wagyu) tends to cost a fortune.

You hear that turkey farmers? Japan awaits.
- +1 y
@ArtemisSilver I think it could be very popular here if it was farmed! Especially if it's marketed as healthy and lean and low in calories. I also roasted a Butterball turkey one time for Thanksgiving (a relatively small one since we don't have such large ovens here) and made it for my Japanese friends and they loved it. I made it with gravy instead of stuffing but I think they would have loved it with stuffing as well.

I've been toying with the idea of bringing over some Canadian sugar maples too. Syrup candy might do well as a seasonal novelty treat.
Alas, another idea stalled for want of capital. - +1 y
@ArtemisSilver Syrup candy might be a mixed bag. It's difficult for me to predict Japanese tastes when it comes to sweets (even though I am originally from here, I often bring snacks from the US as omiage to my Japanese friends from business trips), and it's hard to predict what they will like.
A common thing they say is that it's too sweet for their tastes, but it doesn't make so much sense to me since some Japanese snacks and desserts can contain just as much sugar. It might have to do with texture (Japanese are very picky about texture) and also the other flavor profiles like some sourness or bitterness on top of the sweetness to contrast or balance, or even saltiness together with the sweetness. - +1 y
Maple candy has a lot in common with older hard candies which I am told are still marketable gifts in JP, but it's hard to say. I bet they'd be easier to sell if associated with the Hokkaido winter theme and a local production source.
Still though, it's a small niche at best. Mostly I'd just like an excuse to retire in JP mess around with trees. - +1 y
@ArtemisSilver I think it could definitely be popular in Hokkaido! They tend to favor very hearty dishes there. I also wonder if you can do a Canadian fusion with the fresh maple syrup combined with Dango (Japanese rice dumpling).
![If you had to give up one of these meats, which would you give up?]()
I often daydream about opening up a Texan-style barbecue with roasted brisket and turkey. Most Japanese have never tried either of those and sometimes not even large hunks of roasted meat like that (Japanese tend to slice things like beef really thin, and steaks are often sliced to only half an inch or so in thickness unless it's at a very fancy and expensive restaurant). Also maybe dry-aged meats and things like that -- meat lover's heaven! I think that would be very popular here. - +1 y
@ArtemisSilver Japanese I've met are also surprisingly ignorant about steak cuts in spite of the popularity of Wagyu and Kobe beef. Many of my friends don't know any steak or beef cut besides sirloin and possibly filet mignon. They don't know about porterhouse, NY strip, ribeye, t-bone, Picanha, brisket, etc.
- +1 y
@ArtemisSilver There are also some extremely simple Western foods that I was shocked to find most Japanese never tried (I took it for granted )! A prime example is a broccoli and cheese. I discovered most Japanese friends and acquaintances not only never tried, it but they thought the combination so bizarre and strange. So I made it for them and they loved it so much that they started making it themselves!
It would easily be chicken.
I don't understand how people like chicken, it's by far the most bland meat there is.
But then I see people saying fish and lamb which are by far the most flavorful...
Clearly you people just hate when your food has flavor lmao.12 Reply- 1.5K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic.

+1 yTurkey or lamb. Hate turkey and and lamb is too expensive.
33 Reply- +1 y
It’s not that crazy expensive, I just don’t see it worth paying a premium for
I would say the pork tenderloin only because I only like it three ways with sauerkraut and potatoes cooked properly with fresh onions, Apples and little sugar and salt black pepper and rosemary. Or as Snitchel with proper crrisp and noodle and gravy, or shredded with green peppers, red peppers whole marras an no tomatoes served over Risotto
