Is the hospital food a junk in your country?

Sometimes I visit a hospital either for personal health problems or for other stuff and I noticed that almost everywhere (with a few exceptions) the hospital food in my country is a real junk, almost as if it has come from McJunk's kitchens. The cheese has been cheese at some point before arriving at the hospital, it was the same with the ham and the bread had seen better days in its short life. And they want $1.30 (a piece) for this crap... 🤣

Luckily, the hospital near me actually has really good food that is made daily by the kitchen staff there. It's so good that before the pandemic I actually used to go into the hospital cafeteria to eat lunch there sometimes. No joke. Half the staff was from the West Indies and India, and they made curry chicken and roti, and a curried chick pea dish (channa masala), both of which were to die for. They also had really good homemade soups, stews and pastas, as well as really tasty sandwiches and salads of all kinds too. Not only that, but it was cheap to eat there, so it was a really good value. I honestly liked going there more than most restaurants because the food was so good and it felt good to support the hospital a little bit too.

I remember my dad spent time there nearly 30 years ago and he said the food was really good then too. I know most hopspital's food isn't very good, which never made sense to me, given that they are trying to nurse people back to health. There should be more of an emphasis on better kitchen staff and more funding for better quality food. As I mentioned, the food at my local hospital's cafeteria was really cheap in price, so serving good, healthy food for people shouldn't be that difficult. It just takes a bit of effort and care to do it.

British hospital food had long been the butt of many jokes for being so awful. The problem is meals are designed by accountants not chefs.

Well, it's not as bad as actual junk food from McDonald's, but it's pretty generic, bland and tasteless
