Are Yorkshire puddings and popovers the same thing?

As I understand it popovers are the American equivalent to the British Yorkshire pudding. Pictures on Google just show popovers in tins or with a sweet filling and no gravy in sight.

I think they are by recipe but not by how they are eaten. Yorkshire pudding is a uniquely British puff pastry that's made to be eaten with (or without) gravy, often with a roast. It's a little bit salty tasting as it has no filling.

Popovers on the other hand tend to have a sweet filling (jam, berry sauce, butter, cheese or custard) and some I've seen have chopped herbs in them.

Many places used to have jam on cold Yorkshire pud. Mostly North of England. Lanceshire, and also Yorkshire, too, I believe.

Never heard of popovers! Learned something new again!

I'm not sure what Yorkshire putting is, I believe popovers are a little pastries with typically strawberry or raspberry jam

I heard Yorkshire puddings being referred to as popovers in my family. We used to eat them with syrup, or roast meat (never both).
