How to start drinking?

I really want to start. But I’ve been isolated from it my whole life

When I was in high school, I thought the purpose of alcoholic drinks was to get drunk. At parties, I would force down beer, vodka, or horrible, cheap wines like Spanada because I thought the point was to get drunk and party. I got really sick quite and few times.

I didn't realize that alcoholic drinks could taste good. There are an infinite number of tasty drinks. You sip alcohol for the taste. Getting buzzed is just a bonus.

It wasn't until I was over 30 that I started discovering wonderful drinks. And by that point, I wasn't drinking to get wasted.

So, if you want to get used to the taste of alcohol, I would recommend tasting quality stuff at first.

Dessert wines like late harvest Rieslings are great. Also try port.

Mixed drinks can be super fun. Tequila sunrise, margarita, mai tai, ... the list is endless.

Once you get an idea of what alcohol tastes like, you can try tasting all kinds of liqueurs, liquors, wines. Smell the aroma, take tiny sips and swirl them in your mouth just to savor the taste.

When you are tasting, try to imagine what the tastes and overtones remind you of. With wines, for example, people talk about hints of different things like apples, blackberries, cherries, pepper, smoke, oak, ...
Note the forward and aftertastes.

Doing that helps you to thoroughly savor the drink and makes the experience more enjoyable.

There are LOTS of different beers and ales. You are bound to discover some that taste really good. I'm not a huge fan of beer, but I drink it sometimes. I kinda like dark beers - stouts and porters - but I've had my share of Anheuser Bush beers, Heineken, Anchor Steam, Sapporo, Tsingtao, Modelo, and lots of other commercial and craft beers. My wife loves Hefeweizen. She also loves Smithwicks pale ale.

First of all pick a drink that appeals to you. Do you like sweet, bitter, sour tastes etc. Make sure your phones charged because when that alcohol kicks in you'll really want to buy stuff off eBay that you didn't knee you needed.

Do a little research and discover how to make your own wine. You can make wine out of just about anything. Once you perfect your craft, invite some girls over for a taste test.

Your biggest expense will be the sugar, but no big deal. After Halloween, the store will literally give you free pumpkins. Mix up a batch of pumpkin spice wine, and tell girls they're welcome to come and try it out. You will have cheap booze, and a great ice breaker to meet the babes.

My dad and mom used to make wine, and now I'm going to give it a try. In my state the tax on booze is as much as the price. So if the booze is $10.00, then it will cost $20.00 with tax. Fuck the government. I'm going to start making my own.
I wish I had started a month ago, because it would be good for Christmas presents.

I used to party a lot and alcohol leads to mostly dangerous and regrettable experiences.

If you can find a way to be self-confident and fun without it you would probably be further ahead. If not, good luck with that drinking life it's wild, but also a mess usually.

Pick up a low alcohol percentage drink and drink it. Easy. Don’t start with high alcohol percentage drinks.

Guys typically drink beer or cider, anything between 3% & 8% is considered low. Personally I’m not a big drinker and usually go for low percentage wine.
