Try a cocktail like a mai tai, margarita, tequila sunrise or pina colada. They are sweet and tasty and the taste of the alcohol isn't overwhelming. It would be a way to experience the alcohol flavor for the first time.

Another thought is to taste an after-dinner wine like port or late harvest wine. They are sweet and delicious and will give you an idea of the complex flavors that only wines can have. Pure ambrosia!

Once you have experienced the taste of alcohol in such a wine, you can try other wines.

The thing about wine is, you sniff and then take sips and swirl them in your mouth to get the full flavor and aroma. The point is to enjoy the wine, not to get a buzz or get drunk.

It would be a really good idea to attend a wine tasting in which a variety of whites and reds are explained one at a time and sampled in sequence from sparkling to light bodied white wines to bold reds.

It's a sign of sophistication to be able to appreciate a glass of wine.

I have to agree, a friend took me to lunch last year and we shared a bottle of '97 Pichon-Longeuville, beautiful wine but I'm glad I only found out it was £400 afterwards because I would have feared that before

@jamesgoldman. I had to look that up. It's appears to be a blend, based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
Many times, blends are better than pure varietals.
I'm seeing on-line prices of under $200, which is still way out of my league. LOL

Again there is good attack, with a sweet, ripe blackcurrant and raspberry edge to the fruit and balanced acidity. There is a really tart, bitter dark cherry acidity and quite a liquoricy grip. Good length and very nice drinking."

Isn't it fun to try to detect all the characteristics when tasting wine? Wines are meant to be savored. I love it!

Out of my league as well but the friend paid (he's looking at 7 figures this year), the younger unaged ones are notably cheaper but one they lay down for a few years the price grows exponentially especially once you hit some of the real high brow stuff

I'm going to assume you're of age in your country, but if you're not then the answer is "wait until you're of age". But in short, find someone who's responsible and that you're comfortable (preferably who has some experience drinking), buy alcohol, and then consume that alcohol with that person. Definitely don't drive, I suggest staying-in on the off chance something goes wrong (ex. you misjudge your tolerance), go slow (1 drink an hour is the general rule), research correct proportions for what you plant to drink (ex. beer and vodka are very different in terms of alcohol content), double check any medications/pain-killers you take for alcohol-related instructions, and be mindful while you're drinking. If you physically feel unwell, stop. Don't forget to eat before and while you're drinking and drink lots of water before, during, and after.
