Guys, Why do hamsters think they're so tough?

Freddy and I were watching a movie. I was holding Freddy and petting his head. I thought Freddy was about to yawn, because his mouth opened wide. But when the blood started gushing out of my finger, I realized Freddy wasn't yawning. I'm 5' 6" and I hold a white belt in karate. Freddy "was" 4 inches tall, and to the best of my knowledge, had zero training in martial arts. That was the day I introduced Freddy to the art of nunchucks.

Mrs. Snow and I make pretty good kids. I mean, the making of the Snow Flakes itself is pretty good. But I guess that's besides the point. The oldest Snow Flake is really smart. Got himself in the honors program at college, he makes people laugh, and he works two jobs. One of those jobs is in the maintenance department at our church. The church has a mouse problem. (The rat problem is in leadership but that's the topic of a different post.) My son has been deputized to deal with the mice. He's making progress. It turns out that a large part of the problem is the teachers who work at the church school. They are not, for the record, mice although in my humble opinion they are a bigger problem than the mice. The teachers, apparently, leave food in their classrooms which the mice then eat. I am suspicious of this story because there are teenagers at that school and everyone knows that there is never food left when teenagers are present in the same way that there is always deodorant left when teenagers are present. But I suppose I digress. So my son, bless his heart, attacked the mouse problem by attacking the teacher problem -- I mean the teachers leaving food in their classroom problem. The mice are almost gone now. No match for my son. But they're tough. The ones that are left make the Rats of NIMH look like Jake with no camera on a beach of men.

Why, Gummy? Because hamsters want to be mice.

There really is no such thing as a tough hamster; if you parboil them for 17 minutes at 350° Freedom Units, they come out nice and tender; like a little bitty brisket.
