My 8 month shih tzu won’t eat dog food. how do I get him to eat again?

i buy expensive food for him because at first i thought he just didn’t like cheap stuff. now i’ve tried chicken, fish, vegan, almost everything and he still won’t eat. he’ll go days on ends without touching his food and will starve if we don’t give him the wet food (that makes me have diarrhea) or our food. my mother always ends up giving him a place of rice and chicken or something like that that she cooks just for him.

i know because he’s still small it’s super important to eat his own food, when he did his hair was shining and growing beautifully but now he won’t even eat hard treats. how do i get him to eat again?

Take him to the vet just to make sure it’s nothing physically wrong. Do you exercise him enough and keep him happy? Dogs can refuse to eat if their other needs are neglected, due to frustration or depression.

As others have said get him checked out by the vet. Maybe possibly the dog food you are trying to give he can't eat it. Our dog couldn't eat certain types of dog food because it upset him.

Maybe he has some tooth problem and it hurts to eat. You should probably take him to the vet. Anytime an animal changes its diet or routine it should be noted and investigated.
