I've had both. Currently have a gas stove. I like both but I think for safety reasons an electric stove is more convenient.
Electric. Funny story... not really? So I moved into my first room i pay for rent aaaand i disturbed my landlord because I was burning my meat. He was not happy and i'm glad he didn't punch me in the face right then and there while he was trying to sleep. Then second time, he still didn't punch me but said to please stop burning shit in his kitchen. :1 He has a gas stove and it shows I was raised in an electric stove place.
On the good side, I have cooked eggs, boiled me weenies and eggs and even baked cookies without issue. Mistakes are the best teacher, yeah?

+1 yIt's nice cooking with gas because the heat is pretty much instantaneous, however, electric stoves (especially induction systems) have come along way in this area.
I agree electric ranges are much safer, the other thing is gas stoves still contribute to greenhouse gas and electric is a little greener energy in that perspective.
I have an electric range, and even though I could hook up to natural gas, I think I would get another electric range, regardless.

+1 ydifficult... i make a lot of food in a haybox 😃
But to start the process i use electrical because it is more direct and slower
( Slower in the sense of turning the heat down it reacts slower.. electrical ones take a lot of time to cook down so you can turn it down and still enjoy the heat of the plate.
This is not the case with induction cooking. )

+1 yI do not need the government dictating what I use to cook because if I choose electric I could not cook because we would not have enough power to do so. We barely have enough to keep our lights on now add thousands ev cars trucks busses to an overloaded grid. Green generating is about one quarter of what we need, because the Idiots in Washington want to ban oil and coal generating with no replacement generating except wind and solar which we know from what happened in Texas a few years ago when wind and solar failed. This shows that the government does not know what it is doing

+1 yOur kitchen has both gas & electric cooking appliances but we almost always use the electric stove.
Having tons of solar power helps significantly lower the electricity bills.
Our natural gas bills are "nearly non-existent" because we mostly use the appliances that rely on electricity.
00 Reply I don't have a gas line to my property at this time, so electric. I'm not against gas, but I have access to a solar array so utility bills aren't really a thing at the moment. A backup gas generator wouldn't be a horrible idea, but the expense of installation and maintenance would most likely not be worth while in my current situation.
00 ReplyI've only had electric stoves. Here in Switzerland gas stoves are only used in places that are old or in remote places. All the homes in the city or modern places have electric stoves it's not even a debate like nobody asks you if you want a gas stove in your house they just ask what kind of electric one you want.

+1 yIt’s so much nicer to cook with a gas stove.
So, as someone who enjoys cooking, my vote goes to the gas stove.
Electric stoves are super easy to clean though, and you’re right, they’re also safer, so I’ll give them that.00 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic.
m +1 yI had both, but prefer electric. I find it difficult to use low/lower heat with gas, it's either too hot or off. I like to use the residual heat of electric plates to have the food simmer for another 10-15 minutes.

+1 yFor cooking, gas, for air quality in my home, electric. If my range died tomorrow I'd buy an induction one though. More like cooking with gas but no harmful combustion byproducts.

+1 yAccording to the NFPA, as long as both are installed correctly and to code, they carry a similar level of safety. I personally prefer electric as well though.

+1 yGas is better for cooking. Cooking time is shorter for the burners. Takes about the same time for baking. Gas does brown better.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yElectric. My husband is a big pepper so we have two generators if the electric goes out as well as a portable two ring gas hob for camping.

+1 yGas stoves cook more evenly, but with electric you don't have to worry about the pilot light (s) going out and dying in your sleep because of it.

+1 yI have a duel fuel range as I prefer electric for the ovens and gas for the cook top

I like the gas cook you as it's instant on and instant off so much easier to lower the cooking temperature without going to a different burner. My gas cook top also has a flat top and a salamander. The electric oven temperature control is far more precise abd accurate then gas and doesn't heat my kitchen up as much as a gas oven does.
+1 yElectric seems better to handle.
