To all the grill masters here, do you prefer using a charcoal or propane grill?

we use them all, and have them all... gas, charcoal and wood (and now pellets but I have not used those yet)
it all depends on the occasion and the circumstances, then decide what we would go for
gas is just convenient and fairly easier and that is why we have them but it is the one we use the less, personally, I prefer charcoal much more because to me it is about the method and to actually prepare a grill and go with it every step of the way... lol
I like to start the fire, prepare for all of it and I've always liked how it cooks every cut in a more particular and distinctive way, and from the very start to the very end, it is something you should keep your eyes on if you want to do it just right.. it also takes a bit longer but that's the point for us, it is something to enjoy rather than rush
I like wood (mesquite, hickory or oak) as well, but that's more of an art and it is for the pit and something we save for the truly big gatherings, a tradition
I have a charcoal grill, a charcoal/wood smoker and a large ery hugh end natural gas fired grill. It depends on what I'm cooking and how much time I have which one I use. I always use my smoker with apple wood when smoking my homemade bacon and I always use my smoker when cooking a brisket for 12 hours. I will use my charcoal grill if cooking chicken pieces or a piece of pork butt and smoke the meat with pecan or cherry wood. When cooking ribs I prefer the control I have with indirect heat on the gas grill and I usually cook burgers or steaks on the gas grill as it has a searing grill that gets up to 1800°F in 30 seconds to do a quick but great reverse sear on the meat.
If you're going to use a gas grill you have to get a good one snd I prefer natural gas over propane. My gas grill has s drawer with it's own burner for wood chips to add smoke to what you're cooking it also has the separate sear grill that in 30 seconds gets up to 1800°F for a quick but perfect sear no charcoal grill can match. It's convenient and has built-in lighting for night grilling and I can fit 36 6 oz. Burgers on it at the same time for a crowd it's all heavy stainless steel and will never rot. But not everyone can afford to lay out $3500.00 for a top quality grill like this one.
Beech or Alder wood are my favorites for grilled meat smoke aroma at grill parties. I have no clue about grilling but I think using propane without any smoke is pointless.
I want to start grilling but which do you recommend
The cheapest would be to get a Weber kettle charcoal grill and a Weber chimney charcoal lighter as you don't want the nasty taste of lighter fluid ruining your food and the self lighting charcoal brackets are just as bad. The best briquettes to get are the Weber hardwood briquettes for a long burning hot fire. Or if you want a short burning hot fire use hardwood lump charcoal. Which are sufficient for a a few hot dogs, burgers or sausages.
@LiamSawyer I dont want the cheapest lol. I have an indoor grill for that 😂 Also, if i just want to do burgers/ribs/hot dogs/sausages, do you recommend a smoker or a grill? Im still confused about the difference
Sorry, ibshould of said the best value for your money. The 22" Weber kettle grill is the golden standard in charcoal grills you can just grill or grill and smoke. It's not a smoker but you get the best of both worlds for a reasonable amount of money.
@LiamSawyer what keeps the flames low so they aren't all in my face
The air vent control.
@LiamSawyer so like i’d need one of the grills with the twist buttons right? Lol sorry for these silly questions
Twist buttons?
www.amazon.ca/.../ this is what you want to get.
@LiamSawyer aww what about the pretty ones
That's a gas grill not a charcoal grill.
@LiamSawyer is the gas grill the one that needs propane and could blow me up? Because im afraid of those after watchin final destination

If your using propane you might as well cook in the kitchen
I am so far from being a master that I might as well be on another planet. But... I can cook burgers and steaks and teriyaki chicken that my family craves and compliments, so...
Anyway, though I'm not a master, I use charcoal.
I wouldn’t exactly call myself a “grill master” (that was hubby) but I do alright. Always use charcoal
Right now we have a propane BBQ, and it’s okay. Planning on getting a charcoal grill for next year.
Traeger (wood pellets) mostly, but we have a small propane grill as well.
My dad was a grill master, and he always cooked over an actual fire. Yummy.
I use charcoal, but I only like bbq hotdogs and hamburgers. Nothing else really.
I used a propane grill. it is easier & faster. If I had the time I would prefer to use charcoal.
Both. If I'm doing burgers and hot dogs, propane. If I'm doing smoked meats wood pellets. If I'm camping charcoal.
Charcoal only, I've tried propane heated grill/lava rock and it just isn't the same.
I used to use charcoal but I’m sticking to gas now
Neither I smoke with wood pellets. Well my father and I do.
Charcoal with wood chips for a smokey flavor
Charcoal is the best AND only way.
Propane. There's no going back to charcoal.
Electric Grill
I got natural gas stove
Propane tastes bad. Only way to go. 👍🏻
I use both! I have 2 barbecues!
