Do Chinese people seriously eat cats and dogs?

Question

I wanted to learn Chinese, but after learning this, if I have to do business in that country, I'm about to give up because I won't be able to do it in such a culture. I would be very upset if my co-workers talked about eating dogs around me or if I came across such images on the street.

Not only is it safe that they kill and eat cats and dogs but they do worse things than that.
People don't care about people there. They are heartless.
Someone wrote an opinion about a question I posted. He said they run children over with their cars. Not just once, but over and over again until you couldn't even see there was a person on the street anymore.
Now that literally made me sick to my stomach. They are ruthless people. Are you sure you want to go there? Especially now when they are making the FENTYNL that is killing so many Americans 🇺🇸. Because of them making FENTYNL, my boyfriend was killed by FENTYNL a few months ago.

I miss him. RIP honey

How are you that stupid you believe whatever you hear instead of doing research. The answer is it’s complicated, historically some dogs were eaten but there were also other dog breeds that were praised. Most modern day Chinese people don’t eat dogs, it’s also hypocritical for western people to criticize Chinese people for eating dogs just because they’ve domesticated dogs and put them in a pedestal when in reality you eat animals like pigs, chicken, and etc the only difference is cultural

Not in Western restaurants in China, but if you go to a local Chinese restaurant, dog and cat, along with some other unexpected treats, may be on the menu. I was in Shanghai several years ago and experienced this first had. I declined cat and dog, I had some chicken and pork instead.

Obviously... The Chinese like eating dog so much they hold an annual dog meat festival like Americans have BBQ festivals for cooking up chicken and pork or Germans have beer festivals.

Maybe in 60s when there was the massive hunger in China and lots of people died of it, maybe that’s where the myths come from.

These days, I’ve never met a Chinese person who has been okay eating dogs, cats and such…

They do, and some other countries people eat dogs and cats, too, but not every breeds of cats and dogs. They even eat when they feel they are unlucky.

However, I must note that not everyone eats dogs and cats, especially the young people now don’t. And they will not force you to eat if you don’t want to.

In some parts they still do, and in some parts of many Asian countries. My friend from the Philippines says his family who lives out in the province (the countryside or rural area) cooked a black dog, and that it was a traditional meal in that part of the country.

It is just one of choice. Even if there are you can not eat that because of lack supply chain. They steal that from neighbor by poision. It goes through food chain to you.
