Do you take the crusts off the bread slices to make french toast?

not a survey, like a legit question, is the crust meant to be removed? it’s kindof the least appealing part. i use whole wheat bread

In most cases it softens and even helps to hold the slice together

seems like the middle is soggy and then the crust is such a drasticly dry texture in comparison. maybe my question should’ve been what am i doing wrong that the center of the toast is too soggy >_<

If your French Toast is soggy in the middle, the bread may be too thin or too fresh, or it soaked in the egg mixture too long, or the pan was too hot.

Also try dipping it in syrup as you eat it, if you use syrup, rather than pouring it all over it.

No. I like the texture of the crust. And it kinda helps to hold the French toast together and makes it more substantial. Besides, I don't like wasting food. LOL

When I make French toast, I soak each piece of bread until the center is very wet. Then I fry it in butter on both sides at a low temp until they are browned. When I do it that way, the center kind of puffs up and gets fluffy because it is saturated with egg. It almost has a custard consistency.
