Actually the butt is the correct term. Now if I may answer in classic GAG style,
"is it weird I eat crusty whole loaves but don't eat the crusty end slice of sliced bread?"

Yes of course. The first obivously as the bread is still fresh enough and the last you can allways toast or fry it with eggs if its too hard. Otherwise its still fresh and you can eat it normally.

Sure do! Nothing wrong with them. They're called, "crusts". If they're a bit too thin to do much with, I'll feed them to the bunny in the yard or the birds. Or, maybe I'll just grate them up and put them into a meatloaf.

I call the end of the loaf the "heel". I don't care for them because they always seem a bit dry. If I do use them, I'll turn the cut side to the outside of the sandwhich.
