I have never had Indian food but I am thinking about trying tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and kadai chicken. I am very curious as to what they will taste like so if you’ve tried them, let me know. Also how different does butter chicken taste from tikka masala? And is tandoori chicken spicy? Because its hella red
You should find an Indian restaurant that has a lunchtime buffet. That way you could taste a variety of things. That's usually what I do.
Indian restaurants make food for the typical American palate, so it's usually not very spicy. I mean, it has lots of spices, but it's not hot spicy.
Tandoori chicken is not spicy. It is marinated and has a lovely flavor, but it's not hot.
I think I Iike chicken tikka masala the best, but there are other wonderful dishes. I love most Indian food. The spices they use are delicious.
I like wiping the sauce off of my plate with naan. Garlic naan is really good.
I'm a huge fan of spicy (hot) foods. If you like that, you can tell restaurant to make your dish spicy. They don't just add red pepper flakes. They add chili oil when they cook it. It actually adds to the flavor and they can make it as spicy as you like.

The best way to experience it, is to ask someone who likes Indian food and can recommend a decent restaurant. Then talk to the staff there, nearly every Indian I have been to will be happy to provide a taster session, the more people the easier this is, as they just split up main meals. A lot of curries are chicken, lamb, fish or vegetable based. I prefer a decent Chicken Jalfrezi with extra garlic, also Bhuna, and a bunch of others.
Link here describes different types.

One thing to remember, is that while we refer to them as Indian dishes, this also includes, Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisine, also there are difference in the types between north and south.
I like butter chicken and mutter paneer… but I pick out all of the pieces of cottage cheese 😅
Im not sure of the difference between the two but I just stick with butter chicken. The butter chicken from my hometown tastes more sweet like they put sweet potatoes in it. And the other ones I’ve tasted in Korea and other states have more spicy kick. Both delicious.
mutton roganjosh, i still remember the place i first had the delicious meal. I was like, what in the world? Glory be to God. I hope everyone else has the same reaction haha

I love a good Rogan Josh. Lamb in a tomato based sauce. Delicious with Peshawari Naan rather than rice - personal preference. I'm not sure if a Balti is an Indian dish or one developed in England from Indian food, but a good Balti is a tasty milder dish.
Lamb is better than beef or pork in Indian food although goat and mutton are just as good.
While my other English friends would tell you to have a lager with it, I find a glass of whole milk more pleasant during, and non-alcoholic soft drinks afterwards more preferable. I'm not tee totaller, I just prefer the experience without booze.I've tried all of them. We generally take Chicken Tikka Masala/Butter Chicken with plain/butter garlic Naan as the main course. Tandoori chicken will be dry. It's spicy but not burning hot spicy. Also, sometimes the restaurants ask whether you want to to be spicy or moderate. Tikka masala and butter chicken would be milder. I usually find both of the to be similar. Butter chicken has a slightly sweetish taste as compared to tikka masala. You can try Shami Kebab and Reshmi Kebabs as starters. I'd highly recommend Reshmi Kebabs. It's not spicy, rather very mild flavours, with burnt edges giving it a smoky taste.
What I generally order when at a restaurant is Chicken Wings/Lollipops as starters, followed by Naan with some proper chicken dish - like the ones you listed above. You can try biryani as well. But most of these dishes aren't authentic Indian dishes 😅. Popular Indian dishes, but I doubt if it should be considered authentic.
I always love rice so I would recommend what I like best that is Tandoori Chicken Biryani.
As for the taste and spiciness of the three you asked-
Butter chicken is not that spicy as it is made with butter and cream, it does sometime has a spicy after taste depending on the place you eat it.
Chicken tikka masala can be a bit on the spicy side but I find it very dry and I find it suitable for a snack rather than dinner.
Tandoori Chicken is spicy as it marinated with spices before being roasted and I love the taste of it.
I have never had Indian cuisine in US but I have heard that the Indian food made there is less spicy than the one made here in India so if don't like spicy food that much you would be fine.
But if you like spicy food you should come here to me in India, I will take you out on a spicy date.
Pun intended.Oh , I dont know what its called but my Indian mate here cooked this mushroom based dish , not a Curry , but was thick and healthy too , it was the best Indian I ever had , with Tandori chicken and the like , thats good too , I take out the carbs and have it with vegetables.
My three Indian standard dishes that I order are:
Sabzi Chicken
Punjabi Chicken
Jalfrezi ChickenAnd with all restaurants and takeouts, my one and only metric is their food quality.
If you've never had Indian food before go for something simple like Butter Chicken, a Balti, a Korma or Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan or rice.
You can then expand out from there into the other dishes. Chicken Tikka is red because of food colouring but the spiciness will depend on the restaurant serving it.To be honest I like very much Indian dishes, as well the vegetarian ones as with chicken or mutton. If you want to give Indian food a go, try any classic recipe, but just in case ask for not too much pili-pili...
Chicken curry...
Onions
Garlic
Chicken breast
Ginger (fresh or ground)
Green cardamom (ground)
Tumeric
Coriander
Salt
Pepper
Chilli powder
Parsley
Basil
Cinnamon stickThe Indian dish tikka masala is one of my favorites. Most of the time I have Indian at an Indian restaurant lunch buffet, and I try just about everything... it all looks and tastes good.

anything chicken... so tasty
personally... for me, not too spicy hot Lamb rogan josh is probably my favourite. Butter chicken is coconut based, milder and more savoury spices. Tikka masala is heavier on tomatoes, more herby and stronger spices. Not crazy hot though
All of it is too spicy for me. I went to an Indian restaurant once and my eyes were burning just sitting at the table. 😂 I'm a wimp.
Chicken Tikka Masala is always a good choice
from the presented I like chicken tikka masala the most
Being half Indian and Indian food being my favourite. If you want meat dishes I would say
Lamb Curry, Chicken Curry, Beef Nihari, Seekh Kebab, Goat Curry if you can find it
Vege: Shahi Paneer, Chole Bhature, samosas, Aloo Gobi
Any masala is usually good with a flat bread. it is the sauce that has the flavor so what is in it is almost irrelevant.
Not a big fan of Indian cuisine. If I had to pick probably tandoori chicken, keema and vada pav. More leaning towards keema.
damn you! lol.. Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Briani, Chicken Tikka, Samosa, Idle Samar, Marsala Dosa
