Yep. The Indian or West Indies/Caribbean varieties are the best for eating plain, in a salad, or on a sandwich as a topping. The Guatemalan avocado varieties would be the next best for that, but preferably the hybrid Guatemalan/Indian crosses. The worst for just eating normally are the Mexican varieties, but being that they are highest in fat, they typically are the best varieties for making guacamole. So you have to pick the right ones for the right reasons. That out of the way, typically the varieties that ship to stores especially stores outside of native growing regions are the worst eating quality, but have the best shipping properties and visual appearance for marketing. The varieties that taste most amazing, don't tend to ship well or don't have the large size or uniform skin color that would make them appealing to potential consumers in a grocery store setting.
