Very interesting and varied answers!! By me it's 4:00 AM closing time and then there's after hour joints until bars can reopen at 8:00 am. The strangest thing we have here is that supermarkets were only recently allowed to sell wine. Also liquor stores had to be closed until noon on Sunday but now they change that to owner's choice they can open at noon any day they choose. Both very stupid puritanical holdovers.

It seems like when i was young you couldn’t buy alcohol before noon on Sundays. By the time i was drinking, that had changed. I heard two different explanations for it, both made sense. But i never fact checked either. Either the legal restriction was lifted, or proprietors were allowed to upgrade their liquor licenses to sell before noon.
Since i’ve been in California, i’ve observed no restrictions. I’ve even bought alcohol on Christmas. GD heathens! Ell oh ell!
The after-bar parties were usually house parties. Not necessarily illegal, but i partied with a rowdy bunch. Rarely have i been to a house party that wasn’t broken up by the police.

Officially it’s like 11:30 but most pubs around here tend to just have lock-ins, and it’s like 3am etc lol

It’s where the landlord/landlady / pub manager, tells the local regular drinkers they can stay behind.
They lock the doors and it sort of becomes a Private party and not a public drinking establishment.
It can then go on to 2am, 3am, 6am.

A basic licence let's you serve up until 11pm but you can get extended licences which in theory let you serve 24 hours.

Lock-ins do happen often in rural areas with no regular policing and the restaurant luckily used to work in did

The police usually just tell everyone to go home if they find out about it

If you call it a private function and prove no money is crossing the bar then they can't fine you for breaking regulations hence it was just the staff, the bosses and suppliers as well as family or associates

2 AM. Restarts at 6 AM. No special alcohol rules on Sundays, it is the same as every other day, except, strangely, for delivery from wholesalers to retail outlets, which is banned on Sunday.
