What's the weirdest ingredient you've ever used in a recipe?

I didn't actually USE it, for obvious reasons, but I once saw a recipe calling for an ingredient that doesn't exist. Unicorn hair? No; unicorns DO exist, they're just not as pretty as people think:

Fenugreek, but I didn’t know that’s what it was, or what it does if it makes contact with skin. I couldn’t find maple extract for maple-flavored frosting so I used imitation maple, which is made with fenugreek. Apparently if it makes contact with your skin, it stays there. For. Two. Whole. Weeks. The only way to get rid of the smell is to sweat it out. Now every time I smell maple I get anxious bc I really didn’t enjoy smelling that on my body all day.
