Personally, I like to eat salty and sweet flavors together, like cottage cheese and jam, peanut butter with honey and salt, or fruit with cream cheese. Also, some people in my country like to eat rice with a lot of ketchup.

For some reason, my dad decided to serve boiled potatoes as a meal and I thought that was boring so I decided to dip the boiled potatoes in ketchup. It tasted like ketchup chips but the problem was I was full very quickly. Another time, my dad decided he would only serve home made pita triangles for lunch and I was bored so I dipped the triangles in mustard and it tasted good again.
For me it was Koshari an Egyptian dish that I learned from my Egyptian roommate in university. It combines pasta, rice AND lentils in one dish. For me I always considered the three the same part of a dish, like you use either one or the other. After trying it I really like it and do it from time to time.
Seared tuna and crème fraîche.
My wife found some recipe that involved those ingredients. We made whatever it was as an appetizer for an Easter gathering in 2010. Everyone was leery, but it turned out to be fantastic!
Slathering corn on the cob with mayonnaise. Sprinkling parmesean cheese on it, wrapping it in foil and then grilling it on the barbecue. Mayonnaise just sounded gross on corn. But it was frigging delicious.

The contrast of flavors dances in such a way that it feels like there's a party going on in my palate! I tried this combination once and at first I was like, "Oh my God, what am I doing?" But guess what? I loved it! The sourness of the pickle and the creaminess of the peanut butter made an incredible harmony
Doritos Sweet and Spicy with cottage cheese. My Mom introduced me to that combination.
Hot Cheetos popcorn with cookies and cream ice cream. Really good in my opinion, especially since the ice cream cancels out the hot of the popcorn.

Only difference in mine and his is that he used fresh raw garlic. I use garlic powder or garlic salt 👍🙂
I can't think of any strange combination that I tend to eat. But rice and ketchup sounds unusual. Only thing I can think of is that they sometimes put ketchup in fried rice in Japan.

I personally don't see it as any different as putting sour cream on french fries. But I like mayo so take that with what you will. Ranch dressing or BBQ sauce is also good with fries.
