Noodles do not belong in soup. Are we in agreement?

Noodles or pasta in soup are an abomination. Noodles are slippery, slimy, nasty things that are impossible to eat with any dignity and attempting to eat them is just going to annoy anyone in the room, especially me.

Pasta shapes are slightly better but belong in a pasta sauce not bobbing up and down in soup. Do not drop pasta into a bowl of tomato soup and call it minestrone.

You need to eat a bowl of "phở" or "bún bò huế".

Phở is the class of wonderful Vietnamese noodle soups which are a staple of Vietnamese cuisine and eaten any time of day. Bún bò huế is similar.

Once you have had phở, it's like meeting "Culinary Jesus". I had my first bowl of phở in late 1992 in Gardena California and the little Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall establishment that I had it in had lots of Vietnamese in it. I had beef phở with tripe and it was an orgasm of flavor. It was one of the highlights and life-changing moments of my life.

With the exception of genuine minestrone soup, made in Italy, by Italian chefs, pasta has no place in soup. Minestrone pasta is a different type of pasta to the normal stuff served with Bolognese and somehow avoids becoming slimy - probably because it's added in the last 2 minutes before the dish is served and doesn't have time to get slimy.

Anything else is an abomination worthy only of increasing the size of my compost pile - although the worms don't like slimy pasta either.

I'm not a fan of noodles in soups. For me are noodles like substitute filling for soups which don't have much veggies and meat inside. Small duck liver pate buns or roasted garlic bread fit for most sweet-sour soups I cook.

Pasta in soup is often annoying, although the degree of annoyance may depend on the kind of pasta. Generally, if noodles are in the soup, I will first eat out de liquid part till the pasta gets more easy to eat.

Taking the risk to get an angry smack in the face, let me mention the Chinese Wan-Tan soup. In this case I gladly accept the Chinese raviolis in the soup. To be honest I always use a fork and spoon with a Wan-Tan soup...

I don't know if those ones are still high in sodium. Possibly and slightly in the less healthy side but still tasty I’m sure! And probably provided slightly more nutrients than microwaveable if the Japanese ramen includes vegetables and proteins! 💯

I like noodles in soup, especially ramen or pho. Those little pasta pellets work much better than noodles in soup, though. I guess you could always use barley, rice, beans, or potatoes instead of noodles.
