If you're going to bake a cake it's well worth getting the freshest best eggs you can. It's the eggs and butter that give the flavour but too many people just reach for the cheapest ones in the shop then wonder why their cakes bland or hasn't risen well.

No, but my father had chickens and often my wife would bake a cake with the eggs. He used to give me duck eggs too. They were a little bigger. Sometimes he would get goose eggs and invite me over for an omelet.
