No. If memory serves, it is named for Pope Benedict XIII, who reigned from 1724 to 1730. I've heard or read several different things, one that he was an avid cook and loved making this particular dish and another that he was on a very strict eggs and toast diet and also ordered the sauce to be made with lemon juice.

Regardless, yes, I love eggs benedict. I'm preparing for another attempt at making it myself soon. The last time I made it, the sauce was too thin and runny.

Many times. I really don't know where the name came from. Typically, a dish is named for the chef, restaurant or city where tye fish was first created. I doubt Benecict Arnold has anything to do with it.
