This question is for people from the united states.
At the grocery store I go to they make bread multiple times a day fresh so you can still get pretty fresh bread even when you go to the store at 6 or 8 pm. Sometimes it's still warm when you pick it up. And it's a whole loaf of bread not sliced in a plastic bag. It doesn't have sugar (or if it does 1 gram per 100 grams), soybean oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, cane sugar syrup, corn starch or preservatives in it. It will get hard pretty quickly but it's worth it to have good bread.

Today I had this plaited bread where they take 3 ropes of dough and make a plait it's very soft inside very delicious. It's one of the most popular types of bread in Switzerland but there's many other options as well :)

This one is called twister they have one with more whole grain which is this one and then they have one with just flour.
Do you pay attention to what you're buying or do you just get whatever the store has? Or do you bake your own bread maybe? :)
