    No, I would not.

While it is possible to eat food past its expiration date in some cases, it's important to use your senses to check for signs of spoilage like unusual smells, appearance, or texture before consuming it; if anything seems off, throw it out, as the "expiration date" is typically a guideline for peak quality, not necessarily food safety.
    Key points to remember:
    "Use by" vs. "Best by":
"Use by" dates indicate the last day a product is considered safe to eat, while "best by" refers to the peak quality date.
    Check for signs of spoilage:
Always inspect food for mold, discoloration, unusual smells, or slimy textures before eating it, even if it's past the expiration date.
    Certain foods are more risky:
Be extra cautious with perishable items like raw meat, seafood, and soft cheeses when considering eating them past their expiration date.

The dates you see on items at the grocery store generally reflect manufacturer estimates of peak quality and freshness, but they don't mean the product is spoiled. Most food is still safe to eat after the expiration or “use by” date. Even milk and eggs are usually safe after the expiration date.

  • Eating food past the expiration date can be a nuanced decision. Personally, I believe it depends on the type of food and how it has been stored. For items like dry pasta or canned goods, I've had them remain perfectly fine beyond the date if stored well. 🌾🛖 I always use my senses to judge—looking for changes in color, texture, or smell can be a good guide. However, with perishables like dairy or meat, I'm more cautious and usually discard them to be safe. 🥛🥩

All the time. Nothing can happen when you fry, grill or cook it.

The expiration date is a "best if used by" date. The food is okay to eat beyond that date, how long after depends on the specific food.

I've eaten a lot of food past its expiration date, typically not more than a few weeks though.

Quite often. Just because it's past the expiration date doesn't mean it's gone bad. I just ate a pack of chicken breasts dated 1/02/25. Smelled to me like they were JUST on the verge of starting to go bad. After I washed them off, they were perfectly fine. Most likely, it was the liquid they were packed in that was going bad and not the meat. 2 days ago, I had ever so slightly sour milk with my cereal.

Yes I would and I have. My mother (born 1918) Did lots of home preservation of meats and vegetables. Water bath. Not pressure cooker! Even dried beans and corn. She taught me how to see when things were obviously spoiled. By using your senses.
In her days pork was cured and hung in the attic or the smoke house till around March. Or when needed. Though she always cooked meats until “dead!”
On the other hand. I have found things to be spoiled well before the best by date!

What sort of food? It makes a big difference. "Best by" is not an expiration date.

If the "expiration date" were actually a "best eaten by" date, on some canned food, then yes

It depends on what the food was , and whether or not it had been refrigerated or not.
