1.7K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I used to eat out more when I was single and lived in the Los Angeles area where there were some amazing places that I loved.
Since I've been married and my wife and I moved to a rural area where restaurants are at least a half an hour away, we usually eat at home. Some of our meals are truly gourmet; far tastier than restaurant food.
But sometimes we go out for special occasions or when we don't feel like cooking. There is a local pizza restaurant that we love. Best pizza ever! There is an Italian restaurant in an old Victorian house that has wonderful food, atmosphere and wines. There are Thai restaurants that make better Thai food than we can make at home. Same with Chinese. There is another restaurant that has amazing cioppino. Indian lunch buffets are wonderful. And, of course, there is sushi.
There is a steak house that we really like.
Mexican food can be an inexpensive and tasty option.
There is a place not far away that has great gyros and falafels.
Once in a while we will drive an hour to a Korean restaurant.
But ever since the covid mandates forced a lot of good places to close and, afterwards, prices skyrocketed, we don't go out all that often.20 Reply

I don’t go out to eat often anymore , because where I live the restaurants and food around me aren’t that good whatsoever, it’s mediocre to me , so I prefer cooking at home instead , but once in awhile I will eat out , because I don’t feel like cooking , but then I usually regret it , and wish I just cooked at home instead lol I have some decent places by me but not a lot . But Where I use to live , I loved going out to eat , because food was so much better quality and tasted so much better , sadly food around here doesn’t compare whatsoever , I get into food arguments all the time with people out here , and I tell them they don’t realize what they are missing out on , but since they are from here , they don’t want to listen to me lol I just laugh and feel sorry for them.

Eating out offers the thrill of culinary discovery, allowing me to experience flavors and dishes I might not attempt at home. Each meal is like a journey, often uncovering cultural stories and traditions. There's something magic about savoring a chef's creativity firsthand, akin to an edible art gallery. Plus, connecting with fellow food enthusiasts in such settings is a joy in itself. 🍽️

m 1 yEither I'm on a project far away from home or it's for food I cannot do, e. g. sushi/sashimi.
20 Reply 465 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. It's the only way for me to get a hot meal most days, as I work at other people's houses (which are often under construction), and may be at as many as 5 or 6 different customer locations in a day, though more typically it's 1-3 different locations. I'm typically 40-70 miles from home, so a 2-3 hour round trip to come home doesn't make sense.
I can make a bag lunch (sandwich, etc.) during the winter, but 3 seasons a year, it gets too hot in my van to keep food at a safe temperature, and trying to manage coolers and ice packs is just too much to deal with, when I'm already having to deal with all of the parts and supplies and specific tools that I have to load into the van and then unload.
It's just far easier to hit a Drive through (if really busy) or hit a restaurant for a quick lunch so I can get back to work.
10 ReplyWifey is a great cook and will make me whatever I want. She appreciates going out to eat and letting someone serve her. I realize this and so we go out often. She is easy to please so we go from dives to the higher end. Yesterday we motored up in a boat to a waterside restaurant for lunch. Today was Costco pizza :D
I am curious as to the cheese they use but the staff did not know and after a fast check of the internet today it seems that it is not common knowledge as people are trying to find out. There are hints as to an 80/20 mix of skim milk mozzarella and parmesan that is aged 10 months.

1 yYou needed at least one more choice. “ Variety”. You can’t make all the dishes at home that you can get out at all the different restaurants. I can have authentic Chinese Food one day and the next day I can have barbecue beef brisket, which takes 16+ hours to make.

1 yBecause the wife doesn't feel like cooking! I love her cooking, but she likes to go to a local restaurant and have a meal she likes but she doesn't cook it very well. Mainly sirloin steak, she loves it but doesn't know how to cook it. It's always over cooked when she cooks it (I like it but she doesn't)! I'll tell her, "I'll fly, you buy". I treat that little lady so good 😊

1 ySimple answer... Change and a Break!
Eating out, which my wife and I occasionally do, gives us a change from the things we eat when at home. My wife is a good cook and can cook what we eat out, but that would have her in the kitchen cooking most of the day. Let's eat out so she can have a more relaxing day.
I chose the fourth option in the poll, which is the closest to the Change and Break reason we eat out.

1 yPresuming you didn't mean the naughty intimate activity of "eating out", when I go to a restaurant, also with my wife when she was still alive, it's actually to eat something else than what we prepare home, and of course to have some variety in life. What my wife sometimes said was that she didn't have to wash dishes on such occasions ;0)

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yThere’s a lot of reasons. One, sometimes it can be cheaper eating out so long as I’m not going to some 5 star restaurant. Not only that my girl will split a meal w me as I’ve gotten better at portion control. So we might get an extra thing of vegetables or something. Two if you work 12 hour shifts like I do then sleep 6 hours to get up, shower then back to work, it’s faster. Sometimes the wife may be sick. In the summer here in Az it’s hot as hell to cook, gets up to 118 degrees some days. Also if there’s promotions for BOGO. I also need to eat right away because I can get irritated so I don’t always want to wait for her to cook me something. There’s other reasons.

1 yI eat out mainly when I’m away on business - 5 - 7 days a month , otherwise it’s food prepared at home with the occasional meal out.
When I’m out with my partner it’s to a ‘nice’ restaurant, usually once or twice a month.
When I choose to go out it can be for a variety of reasons , sometimes because I want to treat my lady , other times for Socialising with friends and extended family without anyone having to be stuck in the kitchen00 ReplyI actually dislike eating out in terms of value for money but the social aspect is really what it's all about.

1 yLately dining out has been cheaper because I am seldom home and things spoil. I only eat about once a day if at all anyway. When I do eat at home it is still pricy since I tend to keep it simple and just buy some fruit to munch on. Mostly mangos lately. No, I am not a vegan

Anonymous(18-24)1 ylet's say I eat McDonald's. it's because Im not going to get pots and pans dirty cooking a burger for myself. if I cook to eat alone and at home I literally just throw a microwaved potato into groundbeef with some steak sauce on it. I don't have time for fancy shit
