Which bread and water dish looks the tastiest?

Bread and water was once a very popular dish not so long ago. At the simplest execution bread was placed in a bowl and boiling water poured over. It had many local or family names for the dish and variations included buttering the bread, adding cheese or raisins and if you were posh using tea or bovril instead of water.

So here's two versions I've knocked up. One is a bowl of bread and tea and the other a "sop castle" of bread, tea and cheese.

Throwing bread away is a sin in Christianity oriented cultures. That's why old bread find it's purpose in bread soup, czech Knedliki or in german Semmelknoedel. Personally I make breadcrumbs out of dry bread and buns.

That sounds foul, I hate soggy bread. Here we dip our bread in soups like broccoli cheese, potato cheese, clam chowder, etc like some civilized folk. We don't soak it in water like some 1800's street urchin
