Actually, yes. My dad used to set up a Christmas village every year when we were growing up. He stopped a few years before he died and gave everything to me. Now every year but last year I set up a whole village and add new houses or pieces to it. I've had my kids helping lately now that they are old enough and I hope they would continue the tradition when they get their own places.

Whenever a member of my extended family is born, they are given a silver dollar to commemorate the year of their birth.

When each of my 3 children were born, I saved the daily newspaper from that day, and gave it to them when they turned 21. Interesting to see what was going on then, especially the price difference of groceries and other items in the paper's ads.
