This is for people who live outside the USA, What is your favorite chain restaurant?

I have recently asked about cracker Barrel and Arby's and some people say that they do not have them in their country, It got me to wonder if they have chain restaurants in other countries and what are they like.

I go to KFC everytime I'm in Iceland tho I'm always disappointed. It doesn't taste of childhood. And I desperately miss Dominos bread sticks...

Indeed we do, have 1 or 2 in Denmark too but these I don't step a foot in. Used to have McDonald's too but that went down under - which I find funny since every Icelandic I know will go to McD as soon as they come to Denmark.

Iceland is very influenced by the US after having an American military base for 55ish years.

For Indian food. We found a really good one in London - I didn't know and just picked a restaurant closed to where we were walking... so we got there and there was a line wrapped around the building. I asked.. they said it was for the resturant, it went by fast because the restaurant is huge. We learned that they are opening one in NY 2026. So we will be visiting next year.

We ordered and tried different cuts of beef on a BBQ grill. A very popular bbq restaurant in Asia. Lots in NY. Boston as well. Some is all you can eat.

we also tried the location in NY. The one in Japan is better.

I almost never go to chain restaurants, we have too many nice family owned restaurants to choose from. The only thing that semi-qualifies is Pizza Hut, I have been there maybe a dozen times.

I am an American, but when I'm in the UK, Nando's is an interesting chain restaurant. They are all over the place.

I understand Nando's is also in the US though I've never been to one here.

I like Burger King, especially when travelling on the motorway. If I'm away overnight, I'll often eat at the hotel restaurant (nothing fancy, usually a chain pub - not Wetherspoons if you're asking)

Normally, I like Domino's pizza, and Greggs for cakes, or a sausage roll.

we need to bring Europe and possibly Canadian quality (not as familiar with this, but milk /cheese is better). We need mom and pop small shops, not corporate. Wife and I don't go to corporate here or in Europe, as much as possible.

This why we need to merge w Canada... so we take on their rules and reintroduce that culture. ain't gonna happen. Trump actions are in this area are good, but a drop in the bucket.

@lightbulb27 Europe is working on a new Silk Road with China. 20 years ago, Mandarin was being taught in German schools and Hamburg receives more shopping containers than you can imagine from China, 365 days a year (Christmas is not an exception). When Hong Kong went back to the Chinese, the wealthy took their suitcases and went to Canada. Some parts look like China, down to the raw meat hanging in the walls. No place is better than 🇺🇸

@TrueConfection you make some good observations and points. Funny enough look at the shipping into and out of Taiwan... it's from China! We visited, all kinds of Chinese stuff there. Plenty in Europe.
But not on board USA is best, we could improve if we opened our minds and took up the best of the world. As it is, we are the best at making people sick with expensive diseases, raising lots of money to research expensive diseases, and having expensive slow deaths... required by law cause we ain't allowed to kill ourselves when it's terminal. Go figure.

TGIF... I don't currently live outside the USA, but when I lived in Japan that was my favorite... Burger King was my second favorite. Just really good food. Oh... I almost forgot KFC. It's way better in Japan than it is here. That shit is addicting af.

In my city we have very uppity attitudes to chain restaurants. If you want to fit in you don't go to them. Plus we prefer cafes anyway.

We've run Starbucks (twice) and Gloria Jeans out of town. There is a McDonald's for people passing through. That's enough. A few chains have tried and failed.

A sign from a few years ago sums it up. "Friends don't let friends go to Starbucks"

@midnightmoon05 Nah. Australia. We are quite snotty about cafes and value the differences between them. The concept that a restaurant is reproducible on a mass basis is an anathema because we'd go to cafe A or Z based on the differences.

At the same we think it is pretentious bullshit to call something like McDonald's a restaurant.

I live in a cafe precinct with 6 cafes to the right of my front door & 5 to my left. So I am especially snotty, uppity and snobby about chain restaurants. :)

@midnightmoon05 You'll enjoy. What sort of stuff do you like? Western Australia is a bit frustrating because there is great stuff to see but it is all very far apart. Even though the roads are superb, you have to drive like a bat out of hell. It is very ancient :- 3.7 billion year old lifeforms, oldest fossil tracks of sea critters crawling onto land, oldest bit of land crust but I have nerdy interests.

Each part of the world have their own chain restaurants so there's that. In Sweden the chain I like is a local one called MAX. They're so successful they ended up generating their own plant based alternative burgers that are much tastier than McD and BK so they get my vote.

I saw some but didn't focus on chains anywhere else. Went to mostly one off places. Prefer it that way. The USA chains like burger king, mcd's, KFC, taco bell are there... but their product forumulations are different. It seems the beverages are as well, I saw a lot of coke in a bottle as example but ingredients diff. I don't drink the crap so don't know what tastes like.

During our travel, we were tempted to try KFC or Burger King, just can’t … we just walked by to the next lovely cafe/restaurant where the locals dine. We made good choices 😊
