Flounder, would you eat this fish?

Flounder belongs to flatfishes like Halibut or Turbot. This fish prefers sandy sea grounds that's why it doesn't taste muddy. As child I was afraid of those fishes due their appearance, but now it's number 4 after Cod, Haddock and Eal on my fish list.

Flounder love muddy estuaries as well as sandy beaches. We have a Flounder festival here in winter and they're a popular target for anglers. At one time people caught them by stomping up rivers with garden forks, a few still do. It's worth noting the European Flounder is a completely different fish to the more predatory American or Japanese one.

As for eating I eat a fair few in the winter months when they're at their fattest but I think the dab is the better tasting flatty.

Tubot is better as well and even more common here, but flounder is a general term for flat fishes.

Turbot used to be very common in the UK but they're hard to find now. But i agree, well worth eating.

I will say I love catfish though and have had that. Best tasting fish I've had, sadly not common over here really but amazing.

Thorny skate. Delicious. A lot like flounder. Treated as a nuisance / trash fish by sportfishermen but well worth cleaning and eating.

I've fished for that fish in the Great South Bay of Long Island and eaten what we've caught many times. Delicious fish. It doesn't taste muddy as it is a marine fish - a salt-water fish not in lakes or rivers...

Halibut is better though I think.

I like founder. There is a spot that I know where there are always founder. You just let out your line until it hats the bottom than just bring it back about 6 inches.
