For me, lunch is something quick, in the form of a snack, as it comes in the middle of the day, in between your work schedule and determined by any previous or subsequent professional obligations that particular day.

Dinner is the most substantial meal of the day, although nutritionists might say that's the wrong approach.

In between lunch and dinner, I'd place what we in Spain call merienda, normally a coffee around 5 or 6 (for adults), milk or chocolate milk (for kids), maybe accompanied by something sweet. It's also an essential meal to be given to kids when they come home for school, cause they need an extra jolt of energy.
