When I was little, I tried dad's beer. It was AWFUL! Years later, I tried it again but it was still awful!
When I was 12, there was a party going on here in the basement, I think it was new years day, my aunt's b-day. I was watching Kubrick's "2001" on t. v., the first time it was ever on. My other aunt came over and asked me if I wanted a creme de menthe. I asked what it was, she told me, it sounded good so, I took it. It WAS good so, I asked for at least one more. Later, she said it was only mint ginger ale! BULLSHIT!! I've had that before and it tasted almost nothing LIKE creme de menthe!!
Another 15 to 20 years later, grandma insisted I have a Schnapps with her for Christmas. I tried it twice, it wasn't that great. A few months later, I was hanging out at a bar where my brother & I used to hang out because we were friends with the bar wench and he offered to buy me a drink. I mentioned having Schnapps with grandma and he said they make root beer Schnapps. I love root beer so, I let him buy me a shot of that. Again it wasn't all that great. He said, if you put an ice cube in it, it tastes just like a root beer float so, he got me another with an ice chip in it and it DID taste exactly like a root beer float!! I had 2 or 3 more before the night was over.
Another few weeks later, my band was at the bar trying to get us a gig there and I just happened to show up to show the bar wench the prizes I won in a radio contest a few nights before when I was there. My band offered to buy me a drink. Knowing I don't drink, they expected me to say, "No.". I ordered a double root beer Schnapps with ice in it. They were stunned!! I had 3 or 4 of those. As I was leaving, I noticed I was having a spot of trouble with my memory so, I never had any more.
A decade or so later, I heard about some mixture that kills dandelions and I wanted to give it a shot so, I made some, used it on the weeds and it did absolutely nothing!! They'd wilt shortly after and, by morning, they were in full bloom, again!! So, I went to the liquor store and bought a bottler of 100 proof vodka to add to the mix. I kinda wondered what vodka tastes like since it looks like water and I think that's what "vodka" means in English so, I got a shot glass, poured enough to wet the bottom of the glass and drank about 1/4 of that and it was too much for me! That was the last bit of booze I drank.
Yes but wish the answer was no. I drank once and will never drink again because
1. lots of people that drink just lose all self control and put you in bad situations.
2. Hangovers just aren't worth it. The feeling of being drunk isn't even that good, its just the social atmosphere that makes it feel that way. Thats why, if you get drunk by yourself you're not just having a good time. You're an alcoholic (at least that's how a lot of people see it).
3. Alcohol tastes bad
I consume alcohol all the time, but rarely to the point of being drunk.
As a culinary explorer, I've enjoyed various alcoholic beverages as part of my gastronomic adventures. Tasting sake in a traditional izakaya in Tokyo or sipping a fine Chianti in a quaint Italian vineyard has been part of experiencing the culture through its flavors. Moderation is key, and I appreciate alcohol as a complement to a meal rather than a focus. 🍷🍶
