Starting when I was 16, I would go to parties. I didn't really like the taste of those beverages. I thought the purpose of drinking alcohol was to get drunk. I got drunk to excess many times, got sick and wound up with hangovers.
A few years later, I tried cocktails like Harvey Wallbangers, Tequila sunrises and margaritas and realized that alcoholic beverages could taste good. And you didn't have to drink them for the purpose of getting drunk.
Later in life, I discovered quality dessert wines and was blown away by the flavor.
I eventually developed a taste for red wines and used to go to wine tastings to sample different varieties and learn about them. I practiced smelling the bouquets and exploring the complex flavors.
I never drank frequently and, aside from my party days, avoided getting drunk because hangovers are no fun.
Nowdays, I probably drink alcohol 6 or 8 times a year, usually a glass or two of good wine at a restaurant. Or maybe a cocktail or two. I like mai tais and cocktails that contain rum, gin or tequila. I don't care for vodka or the taste of whiskeys. I'm not even crazy about beer, although I will have a porter or stout or a foreign beer at a restaurant on occasion.
I also like the occasional port, dessert wine, brandy or liqeueur.
I drink for the flavor and sometimes a slight, pleasant buzz.
Some friends of ours used to have karaoke parties at their house a few times a year, from about 2005 until they freaked out over covid and stopped in 2020. I used to get pretty drunk at those parties because I am a happy drunk - l love everybody and everything - and it loosened me up to have a good time. I'm a vocalist and used to ham it up at those parties. And my wife was my designated driver.
I was able to gauge myself and stay hydrated in order to avoid getting a hang over.
Again, alcoholic beverages can taste wonderful. They are far more complex than non-alcoholic beverages, like fine food compared to boring fast food junk. One needs a sophisticated palate to enjoy it fully. And you don't have to drink enough to become impaired.00 Reply

300 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Actually twice. The first time my uncle Matt was babysitting my niece and myself when we were kids and he asked if I wanted to try some of his beer, so I took a sip and ran to the sink and spit it out. My niece wanted to try it and she took a sip and ran away with the can with him yelling, Hey come back with my beer! 😂
The second time was when I was 15 and I was left home alone. My mother has started drinking bartles and James wine coolers. I think it was called a fuzzy navel and I tried a little bit and it tasted good. I tried another sip, tasted pretty good until I got to about halfway of the bottle and then I started getting a little dizzy and I was like well if this is what the beginning of drunk feels like I don’t want it so I put the cap back on put it back in the fridge and turned the container box around so she would think that she had drank half of it later and I never got in trouble for it. After that, I have never touched anything alcoholic, and never will again.

Yes, I've tried alcohol during my culinary adventures. Sampling different beverages can reveal a lot about a culture's flavors and traditions. I remember visiting a small vineyard in Tuscany and tasting their exquisite Chianti Classico. Each sip was like a journey through the lush Italian countryside. Then, there was that time in Japan, where a humble sake tasting unexpectedly turned into a magical experience, highlighting the artisanship behind each bottle. 🍷🍶

Beer, wine, cocktails, vodka and whiskey.00 Reply I've tried Whiskey, Brandy, Vodka, Rum, Gin, most things, a long time ago, and I like them all.
But if I buy a bottle, I can finish it of in a few days watching TV at night, so I never buy the strong alcohol bottles, and they are also too expensive.
I usually keep to beer and occasionally a bottle of wine.
I might have a bottle of beer with a meal twice a week, and if I buy a bottle of wine, two small glasses after a meal watching sport on TV.
Weekends I usually go for a meal, and if I have a beer, then I don't have a beer during the week.
When I was younger I used to meet up at weekend with a group of friends for a few beers, then to a late night club perhaps Friday or Saturday. Now after work, I'm usually too tired, but sometimes I arrange a night out with a few friends from work for a meal.

7 moSure, ethanol, methanol, and isopropyl. Which alcohol are we taking about? The kind you drink, the kind you use as a solvent or the kind you use to clean a wound?
10 Reply Yes but I am 20 and not legal yet but there is usually beer at some of my college parties. When I'm home my mom lets me have a beer or two as long as I am not driving. But I am fine by not having alcohol in my life. A little to be social is ok
