What is your favorite side dish at Thanksgiving that you are looking forward to?

My favorite is mixing cranberry sauce into my mashed potatoes, So damn good , What side dish do you enjoy the most?

None, really. My focus is on the primary items - turkey, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, and veggies. I make stuffing for others but I don't eat it myself, and others bring the other sides and pies.

I have a huge turkey I'll be putting in the oven about 9am and will be making mashed potatoes using a combination of Russet and Yukon Gold potatoes for extra smoothness. But the real key is the gravy. The turkey gets cooked in a baking bag to retain the moisture and then all those drippings make the base of the gravy.

This is a meal I get only 2 or 3 times a year so I look forward to it every time. I don't waste space on the sides. I usually don't even have a dinner roll, and I love Kings Hawaiian rolls.

I really look forward to my wife's sweet potatoes sliced into discs and baked with butter and brown sugar.
Her cranberry sauce is also amazing. Fresh cranberries, orange juice, mandarin wedges, sugar, cinnamon stick. She cooks it until the cranberries turn to gelatin, then adds more cranberries late, along with the mandarins, so that they cook but stay whole and pop in your mouth when you eat the finished sauce.

*Gelled cranberry sauce crushed into white meat turkey. The mess hall did it on Parris and I have done it ever since.

I’m a big fan of the stuffing, in bird and out. I like to ladle a little gravy on the dry stuff from a casserole dish, but the ooey gooey stuffing coming from inside the bird is usually perfect as is.
