Well it does sound ridiculous yes but you gotta see it from a transportation and supply and demand perspective. There is a good chance that stores in some regions may not be able to restock as fast due to conditions. Many trucks get into accidents or delays in the winter. Manufacturing companies may have work shortages and infrastructure problems so many do not know when the next shipment many come in if fear leads them to believe they need an emergency kit for x amount of days. Im not sure how it is in the US but im assuming the north states have power outages during large snow and wind storms in some regions so people dont take those chances

Guess what? You’ll see the SAME people out and about bitching that everything’s closed. I understand it’s good to have some things if you can’t get out especially if you’re far from town and/or have bad road conditions.

But people tend to buy things that if the power goes bad it will go bad and they can’t cook…. Like milk. Eggs. Meats… Stock up on everything. People panic. That’s what it is.

Lol. It's ALWAYS been this way. Sometimes it's bc they've survived disastrous storms so they prepare better the following time. Other times each person in a building gets a particular item in bulk and they swap. (For example, I can walk to the store for milk and other stuff for myself and my elderly neighbor, but her daughters go to price club for paper goods and soaps, so we swap with each other and everyone's happy.)

When Covid came and they told us we were not allowed to go anywhere everyone bought everything and a lot of people had to go without for a long time. People are scared of that happening again. They need to set up a system where there's a steady supply during emergencies, and a way of preventing hoarding. With just in time inventory we don't even have a day's worth of food and supplies available in the stores.

when my dad taught me about leaving the house, he always used to say "use the toilet whenever you can, not whenever you have to", so i dont wet myself. many things in life are like that. buy food and hygiene stuff when you can, not when you have to. we always load up on toilet paper before the monsoon comes, since they'd get instantly drenched in the rain/floods.
