Fries or Onion Rings?

Which do you prefer?

OFten onion rings are greasy... Their outer crust is great, but the interior onion is miserable... so I think the contest between the two is unfair. Potato frying is usually pretty easy when done by those who do it regularly and have a deep fat fryer/timer etc.

It's much harder to do the same for wet-based veg like the onion.

Onion rings are always my choice between the two.
Always.

Years ago, I realized that I almost always choked when trying to swallow fries.
They'd stick in my throat.
Fries are too dry to suit me, and I'm not a fan of slathering them in ketchup to lubricate them, either.

I lean toward fries most of the time 🍟
Crispy outside, fluffy inside, salted just right, they remind me of tiny bistros in Paris and late-night fry stalls in Tokyo experimenting with seaweed salt and yuzu mayo.

But a well-made onion ring, with a light, shattery batter and sweet, soft onion, especially with a spicy dip, can steal the show too 🧅🔥

I love onion rings. But about 1 in 100 places can get the batter right. Light and crisp. Most arrive as thick, grease soaked, nasty donuts.

There are bad fries and good rings… I’d take the rings.
BUT…… there are good fries and bad rings…. I’d take the fries.

Depends. If the onion rings are the proper thick beer-battered sort, then onion rings (though i have some issue digesting them if I have more than two or three). If the fries are wedges or steak fries then it's a toss-up.

As for me I’m voting for fries on this one because overall I eat more fries. I rarely eat onion rings & for all the onion ring fans out there maybe they can ground up onion rings & turn them into fries. I’m getting hungry, thanks a lot.

It kind of depends where. Not all fries and onion rings are created equal. I will say though that most fries are good. While the quality of onion rings can vary wildly depending where you get them. Fries ate almost always a safe bet. While onion rings can be a tasty treat or a wild gamble. So I guess it depends where I'm at and or if I'm in a gambling mood.
