How can McDonald's get away with this?

In the UK, McDonald's workers don't wear gloves when they make the burgers and everything else. I am sooo disgusted by this. How can they get away with this?

In Japan they wear gloves when handling food (and the kitchens they work in are as sterile as an operating room) and everything is as clean as it can possibly be. I wouldn't trust the same standards to be true in the U. K.

Bacteria build up on gloves the same as hands. And gloves are washed less often. Hygiene-wise my guess is it makes little to no difference either way. Gloves are mainly worn to give customers the appearance of hygiene, by mental association with hygiene settings like hospitals where gloves matter for some procedures.

I'm happy to be corrected if someone has some actual facts on this.

When I was a sous chef only job that had gloves was fish prep
Place I volunteer now has no gloves

There are many locations depending on the food and what's required by law or company some people don't wear gloves but they must wash their hands prior to food prep.

As long as hands are washed I see no issues with it. And it's UK law. Only place I know of where gloves are required is in the US.
