Should I visit my favorite lunch spot less after they keep comping me?

Every Friday at work for about a year I stop at the same place for lunch and order the same thing. Normally I pack a lunch. Just once a week I like to treat myself for lunch. The past couple times they haven’t charged me which I think is really nice of them. I tell them I don’t mind paying. So I leave some money in the tip jar on the front counter. I feel really bad because they’re really nice people that work there.

I would keep going. If they do that it means they can afford to do it. That is a nice perk, but I get why you might feel a little awkward.

You mentioned a tip jar and that you leave a tip each time. So they are in control of whether they charge you or not, but you are in control of how much of a tip you leave.

You could always leave a tip equal to the cost of what you ate. Not much they can do about it.

I usually get a bagel with cream cheese which costs about $2.75. So I put $5 in the tip jar. Even though they say not to I still do. They have always been nice to me. Service is wonderful. When they see me they start working on my order. I always tell them how much I appreciate it.

Just leave a bit extra and make up the difference if you feel awkward.

There shouldn't be a problem with your being comped esp when you still leave a tip. Just don't walk in EXPECTING to be comped.

I have two places I go to that, if the owner is in, I get comped. However I most certainly never strut into the place with that in mind nor take it for granted!

I never assume they will comp my order. I always take out money to get ready to pay.

I agree with others who have commented. Keep going, not less. They like you as a regular customer. They also probably recognize you are leaving some money in the tip jar when they comp you, and that's fine with them.
