The Irish celebrate the Samhian while we Welshies prefer Noson galan gaeaf. They're different but for simplicity lets put them under the Halloween umbrella.

One thing both types of Halloween have in common are mashed potato recipes.

Back in Victorian times a muffin walloper was an unmarried women who stuffed herself with cakes while gossiping to her friends. But when you hear the word muffin what springs to mind?
