Many of us take time around the New Year to reflect on the past. The past year has brought happiness, tears, and unfortunately, some of us have experienced some pretty terrible things in the past year. Sometimes we tend to dwell on the bad things that have happened to us over the year. It can be hard to move past these feelings and this can even make this time of year hard for some of us.
While reflecting, many of us make resolutions to lose weight, save money or do things a bit differently than last year. This year one of my goals is to live life more positively.

Although bad things happen, it's important to not let those bad things get you down. Here are some ways to make this New Year a more positive one:
1. Acknowledge the Good
This is a big one. Often we get caught up in our busy lives that we forget to acknowledge the good things. Those little victories everyday that often get forgotten. For some of us, just getting out of bed in the morning is hard enough. So if you got out of bed today, or if you remembered to water your plants, give yourself a pat on the back. Seriously, these are things that we often forget, but are victories.
Be thankful for the small good things that happen. Finding 5 bucks in the parkinglot while grocery shopping, coming home to a warm house, the smile of a child as you are walking down the street. These are all things you can be thankful for.
One of the way's I'm working on making my new year better is to keep a journal. I'm going to write in things I am thankful for, things I want to improve and also things that are little victories. I find that sometimes during my busy life, I forget to acknowledge these things. It can be hard to remember what I did the day before or even 5 minutes ago. Things sometimes move that quickly. So writing them down will make it easy for me to look back at all the good things that happened.
What will you do in 2016 to acknowledge the good?

2. Take more time for things you enjoy
Many of us have hobbies, sometimes our hobbies include working out, building things, fishing, scrapbooking or even painting. When you are doing things you enjoy, you tend to be happier. Life seems more fulfilling and life is better.
In this new year I plan on making more time for hobbies that I enjoy so much. Taking time for things you enjoy is so important! When life becomes busy, it's easy to put off doing things or to even forget about your hobbies all together. Try to make time this year for your hobbies!
What are some of your favourite things to do?

3. Personal Growth
I find personal growth so rewarding! Learning a new skill or even conquoring a fear can be so rewarding. You will never regret learning to play a musical instrument or taking dance lessons. What you will regret is not doing those things. Think about next year when you are reflecting on how the past year went. You will feel proud of yourself for moving closer to your goal.
This year take a chance on something you have always wanted to do. Don't let fear stop you. And don't let the time it takes stop you either. Whenever you are afraid of starting something because it may take you some time, please remember the following:

So how will you make your new year a more positive one? What things are you working on in the new year?
