Obliviousness-The sad yet hilarious story of the time I didn't know a girl was OBVIOUSLY flirting with me.

As you all may or may not know, last summer I worked at an amusement park. I worked with many people, but one girl stood out. She flirted with me like crazy, but I was too oblivious to notice.

The First Meeting

I'm homeschooled, so because of that I'm not around a lot of girls. Because of that I'm not good when it comes to flirting. Wether it's flirting, or noticing when a girl is flirting with me. Last summer, that changed. I became more comfortable around girls, but I could never tell if a girl was flirting or just being friendly. I remember going into work one morning. The room consisted of the following people:

•Me

•My Supervisor

•Two New Coworkers (That work in a different area)

•Their Supervisor

The two new coworkers were girls. I'll call one Kate, and the other one Mary. They were both attractive, but I thought Kate was cuter. She was really short (which is important to me because I'm 5'8 in shoes), and she was shy (I find shy girls attractive). Mary was attractive also. She was about an inch or two taller than me, and she had a country girl look. As we were waiting to figure out where we were working that day, We started talking. Here is how the conversation went.

Mary: How are y'all today?

Kate:Good.

Me: Good, but tired.

Mary: What time did you get up?

Me: Like, 8:15.

Mary: That's not bad. I got up at 7:45. It's easier for guys cause girls have to do our hair and stuff. We take forever.

Me: Yeah you're right.

Not much there, right? My supervisor then told me where I was working, and to take a cooler of ice water there. Kate and Mary's supervisor told them them where to go, and to get ice water also. They didn't know where to get the ice and water from, so their supervisor asked me to show them were it was. While I was showing them were to get the ice and water, Kate was quiet while Mary made a few normal comments. That day ended with me still thinking about Kate, not Mary.

The Second Meeting

Fast forward a few weeks. I hadn't worked with Kate or Mary since then. I worked with Mary, just me and her. This time we started talking and joking around. I was laying my back on a wall and she walked over and layed right beside me. Later when I was standing she randomly layed her head on my shoulder. I jokingly moved so her head would fall off. She then said "(my name)! Why did you do that?". That was pretty much it that day.

The Third Meeting

Next time I worked with Mary and another girl. Pretty much as soon as I got there she took my hat off my head a said "Did you get a haircut?". I said yes. She then said "I thought you were bald.", while laughing. Later that day it got hot (we're practically outside, and it was about 95 degrees). I said "I am so hot!". Mary then said "Yes you are hot, (my name).". I assumed she was joking, so I just said thanks. Yes, I'm that slow.

You would think she couldn't get more obvious, right? Well, you're wrong. Later that SAME DAY, she was talking about being off that upcoming weekend. I said I was off also. She then asked what I usually do on my off days. I told her sometimes I visit the amusement park (that we work at). She said that she hasn't visited the park yet, but she wants to. That's right. I had a GOLDEN opportunity to ask her out, but I didn't even notice.

Aftermath

After that day, I never really talked to her because we didn't work together much. I'm still kicking myself for not noticing that she obviously liked me. I start work again this weekend, so I'll probably see her soon. I'll make sure that if she still flirts, I flirt back this time. I'm definitely gonna pay more attention to potential flirting this year. Wanna know the funniest thing about this story? This was one of many times last summer a girl flirted with me without me noticing...
