Why are "periods" made out to be so dramatic?

I see mostly guys do this but women too, make such a big fucking whoop about a woman on her period? I see all these stupid things on the internet displaying women to be irrational overly emotional monsters when on their period. Or I see stupid things listing stuff men are supposed to do when their girlfriend is on her period. Aka become her bitch.

It doesn't really add up. Periods are not a death sentence. I do not get crazy emotional and neither do any of the other females I have ever been around. So my question is, women do you really find that getting your period is as awful as many people make it out to be? It's annoying for sure, but I can think of worse things.

Apparently you have never had a really bad period. In my teenage years I would have a migraine for 7 days straight, throw up from the cramps that felt like I had a knife twisting in me, and could soak an overnight pad in 2 hours. Seriously it was so bad my school had a list of three of my moms friends that could sign me out when the pain was too bad and I couldn't stay out of the bathroom.
Oh and the mood swings do not even want to think of them. I was not a pleasant person in the least. Though I had it better than my two friends with endometriosis.

Mine is pretty average but I do have friends who have periods like yours, but they were never crazy emotional. Like me, they only get sad more easily than usual when PMSing.

NO my moods would swing pretty heavily. My parents hated me a little bit. I was essentially as bad as my mother when she went through menopause. Yikes.

Some people get crazy and get really bad cramps. I'm fortunate not to. However, I do have 2-3 days a week before when my hormones go wild and I'm just sad or annoyed about everything. Plus I wanna eat everything. By no means do I go nuts, I just get a little touchy. Once it comes I'm totally fine.

Some women's hormones go wild during their monthly, causing mood swings and such. I do not think it is always acted... Just hormones.

Because they are...for some people...my periods were so bad I had to start taking birth control...the cramping was the worst pain I'd ever experienced...and I can handle pain pretty well...like a knife cutting through my stomach...all I could do was sleep when I wasn't on BC and on my period. I couldn't think straight...was absolutely horrible...almost all the women in my family suffer from terrible periods.

Most of my friends went on birth control at a young age due to painful and long periods but none of them were every crazy emotional or super bitchy. And they also didn't expect to be treated like royalty because of if.

I don't know. To me it's just a human process that happens. I have seen girls make warnings about "that time" but they never got insanely crazy like some portray it.

I think a lot of women use their periods as an excuse to mistreat and take advantage of guys. This causes guys to think that a period makes women insane.

It can be for me, because mine are extremely painful, and this is coming form someone who had children without medication. 'So, if i am uncomfortable for hours and days on end, i can become irritated. I try not to take it out on anyone, because it is not there fault. So, now i take Motrin to alleviate the pain

Some women do experience really bad cramps. I remember in high school I used to get cramps so bad that I'd cry and lay on the bathroom floor. However I've been on the pill for over a year now and suddenly there's zero cramps and everything is just 10 times better. I do think it is slightly overrated though. Some women do probably make a tad bigger deal of it than it really is but I can't speak and say for sure that women are being over dramatic as each woman may experience it differently.

I get very tired and mood a few days leading to my period. Its true some women experience periods differently. Some cases are pretty severe and need medication during that time. I use to suffer really bad cramps that were probably as intense as labour cramps.

its not that bad. mine is normal. once in a while i get sad and thats when i get my special tummy rubs. there's too much gas build up in there and it starts to hurt :(

I don`t get crazy on my period either. I think some people like to just use it as an excuse. The worst thing about my period is my cramps not mood swings.

Everyone has different hormone levels... It's much for mild for some, such as yourself, than others who are more susceptible to mood swings and all that fun stuff.

i get crazy emotional the week before my period. i noticed that i get super frustrated, angry and sad that week. it makes up 80-90% of my emotional breakdowns that month. the day my period comes i'm fine and relaxed but there's a 50% chance that i'll have nausea and painful cramping that affects my breathing and heart rhythm. it can be so bad that i can't move.

Girls aren't raised to be tough, it isn't surprising.

Albeit, I knew girls whose periods were so bad they needed Vicodin. Admittedly that sounds dramatic.

Wow yeah, that is dramatic. Even women with endometriosis are not prescribed narcotics.

Not so sure. My cramps were bad enough to cause vomiting to the point of dry heaving from the pain alone.

I don't know. From my experience, women have their time of the month. It's not as bad as the internet makes it out to be, sure, but then the internet exaggerates everything.

You're lucky (as is your mate!). I have known some women who were bat shit crazy every month at that time.
