I have the same problem with the guy I like, but I just realized that I act the exact same way and that's why it's not working out. Sometimes I'm really nice and talkative and try to get into conversations with him as much as possible, but then out of the blue he'll act really cold or uninterested, so it scares me off and makes me really insecure. Maybe he didn't mean it that way, or maybe my mind just made it up, but my immediate reaction is to treat him the same way. So when I pass him by I won't make eye contact, and when he asks me something I'll just shrug and act cold. It's a vicious circle in which we both don't want to come off too strong; we want each other's attention but we don't want to be too obvious, or seem too clingy. It's really annoying.
okay i like a guy right now, and i swear i feel like im un-intentionally doing all that. i dont know why i dont even like it but i just get scared around him cause my feelings for him are getting intense so i put my head down and ignore him one day then 2 days later i wanna be with him so bad so i tremble to be near him again and then this voice pops up in my head reminding me not to be a clingy creep girl so i back away again. ITS JUST NERVES. we want you but we dont wanna be clingy come off too strong cause if i told him the real thoughts in my head how i wanna be in his arms right now hed get scared and run away from me.

Some girls like playing games, they try to get your attention (clearly it works) by ignoring you. But it's hard to tell if this is the case, at least until you get to know them a bit better. For others it can be a reaction to a perceived rejection, until they realize that's in their head or they get over it etc... Maybe they were told a rumor about you, the list goes on. In some cases though, it's nothing really to do with the guy, it could be family/work/private problems that have them distracted or just plain moody. Cause us girls can be pretty randomly moody.

1. She's PMS
yupp, she may be totally enamored with you, then see you do something gross, like smell a gym sock and then get over it when you're sweet to her... I don't know.. #girlprobs
2. She's playing hard to get
She likes you, but doesn't wanna look too desperate...
3. She's playing you
She thinks you'd be an attention grabbing case to report to her boyfriend of some guy ogling her
4. She wants attention
Her stupid boyfriend or steady crush isn't giving her the attention she wants/needs/deserves. You might just look stupid enough to her to be an attention-giving cutie
5. She's Jealous
Maybe she saw her guy flirting with someone else, and you just look available enough to be revenge material

It sounds horrible, but I swear some do it because they are bored and want attention. Maybe she's in a relationship and her BF isn't paying attention to her, maybe she doesn't want a relationship but wants the perks of being chased after. Bottom line is...if a chick is doing this to you, she isn't serious and you should look for someone else.
I think the reason is the same why guys tend to do this.
I have no idea why, though. I could ask the same.
I do it out of boredom and attention if I really liked someone I would always reply and keep the convo going if I wasn't to bothered about him it's not a priority of
